Cable networks air 16-year-old rape victim’s name

• And here I thought that commonsense would indicate doing anything even vaguely sexual is inappropriate when the victim is essentially unconscious. Silly me.

  • You misread the statement....Read the sentence in context. "Unconscious no problem (to define)....

    • If a person is for some reason unable to say no, they are also unable to say yes. Take that as a no, and move along. These guys feel like they're special, and that is because stupid people have told them that they ARE special.

• It is my understanding that the accused were 18 years old. Why was this tried in Juvenile court? If a 9 year old can be prosecuted as a n adult for a crime, seems to me these boys should have had to put on their big boy pants and be tried in adult court, with adult punishment. 1 year in "juvenile jail" does not seem to fit the crime. Are they still being coddled because the are favored athletes?

  Rape is defined ( I believe) as placing any foreign object in the vagina, mouth or anus. In my state, if a 18 year old has consensual sex with a 15 year old, it is considered statuatory rape, due to the age difference.

    But we now have the definition of Rape:

    Unconscious no problem but now does one have to define "Drunk" and on we go. In addition to condoms kids (M&F) may need to carry a breathalyzer to safeguard themselves...better still abstain? But one cannot excuse the level of arrogance, lack of self control and lack of respect being demonstrated.

• If she was named in open court (as stated) and 3 news outlets reported what was mentioned in open court just what is the issue? BTW: I am still trying to understand the definition of rape. Not meaning to belittle or deride but did sexual intercourse occur....all that is being reported is the Clinton cigar / digit approach....either way a sad story. Almost had my head kicked in intervening (successfully) in a similar incident at the same age as the now guilty young men.

  • They don't name underage rape victims in open court, and if they are accidentally named as they were in this case, by one of the defendants during his apology, journalism ethics demands the name be deleted. Unfortunately journalism ethics are passé. I doubt the subject is even covered in whatever diploma mills the cable news employees come from.

• I feel a major lawsuit coming on, sue the whole bunch of them out of business.

• WTF is wrong with these people? There's no reason for this. Who ever the on air reporter, director and producer all should be fired for this.

  • The scary part is this is the mindset of those who rape. They don't care about thi victim, they think they are being unfairly targeted, and just want to ignore their crime. And particularly with athletes (successful ones especially) the public wants to move along as well.
