  • Lest we think that only Democrats can be this hypocritical, with New Jersey state parks closed down on the biggest summer weekend of the year because of a budget impasse, Governor Christie was photographed sunbathing on one of the beaches closed to the public. Just like California's politicians, apparently he doesn't think the laws apply to him.

    We no longer have elected representatives, folks, let's face it. We have rulers, and none of them, Republican or Democrat, think the rules and laws they enact apply to themselves.

      • No they didn't. I saw your tweet but you're just accepting Christie's explanation like it's valid. The explanation is bullshit. If the state has closed all non-essential areas then why does Christie get to go to his second governor's residence and bask on a closed beach? And let's face it, that second residence is a vacation residence--is that "essential"? And if the beach is CLOSED to the public, why is it open to him?

        • Honestly, I was born and raised near there. I visited that park many times.
          It's closed because the budget to pay the rangers that keep people from screwing the place up, the people that collect the park admission fees, the cleanup crews, and lifeguards isn't there.
          That being his secondary residence, his staff are still being paid, he isn't costing the state anything by going there. I really don't see an issue with it.

          • I don't give a shit what his argument is, although I don't believe for a second his being there doesn't cost more money than his not being there. What I'm saying is there are thousands of other people who could make similar arguments: we don't need rangers, we don't go in the water or leave trash behind, etc. For some reason all those people don't get to be there because the beach is closed, but the governor does. Bullshit. Either our elected representative are fellow citizens or they're our rulers, which is it going to be? Christie just didn't want to be inconvenienced by his own executive decision to close the beach, no matter how many other people were inconvenienced.

        • So,....it's not really that government is shut down, it's just that resources have been reallocated to keep people from using public resources. Unless you're the governor.

  • Upset that San Antonio elected another Raul Castro type. Ivy Taylor might have been Democrat, but she was a sane one (they still exist). These idiots only get elected because "towns" like mine, outliers that are considered San Antonio for zip code, but not property taxes, don't vote in their elections. Otherwise, this new dipsh*t wouldn't have been elected.
    I hope Austin is liking their austere budget. And the fact that their elected sheriff places more concern over illegal immigrants than her voters.

    • Ivy is actually an interesting woman. She beat SA's version of Hillary with full Republican backing. I had always just assumed she was a republican as a result. She was able to grab the job via special election after Julian Castro was tapped for HUD. Dems were caught with pants down on that one because they just assumed they had election in the bag.

      Have no fear though, the Castros and the old Cisneros guard are still very much in charge of this city. Their brother in law brand of corrupt politics will continue to hold SA back from its full potential. At the risk of sounding racist, it's a hispanic thing and holdback from Mexican political roots in this city. Same corruption and political BS that is keeping Mexico from becoming a wealthy nation. We have our 'one percent' controlling the US, the mexican version is one ten thousandth of a percent controlling wealth and power. Same goes for SA, just on a slightly less corrupt scale.

  • Mr Lara.. SB 4 is not against immigrant rights. It's for protecting Texans against illegals aliens that are swamping our state. As a lawbreaking border hopper from another country, you don't qualify as immigrant and you don't have rights. Texas is in the process of clarifying the facts and taking funds from dipshits like Lara in Texas city government that are ignoring existing laws. Fuck you Lara , stay home and waste your own taxpayer $$ , don't try to tell Texas how to fuck up our state.

    And don't try to tell the world Texas is anti LGBT. We've just opted to not participate in the 'musical bathroom door' insanity.
