Major Blue City Mayor Is Abandoning Democrats, Joining The GOP – ‘American Cities Need Republicans.’ Well, well, it appears the tide is starting to turn. Here we have someone who doesn’t want to keep voting for the same people and expecting different results.

On Friday, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who has been in office since 2019, announced that he would be switching his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican in a major shift for the fifth-largest city in America.

Johnson took to The Wall Street Journal to explain his shift, writing, “While Dallas has thrived, elsewhere Democratic policies have exacerbated crime and homelessness.”

“I have no intention of changing my approach to my job. But today I am changing my party affiliation,” he wrote. “Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary. When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican.”

The Second Amendment Foundation’s annual Gun Rights Policy Conference (GRPC) is scheduled for October 1st and 2nd in Dallas. This year’s conference is the 37th of its kind and after a 2 year hiatus of having been strictly virtual, patriots are gathering in person. Not able to make it to Dallas for the conference? No problem. This year’s event, much like many in the past, is going to be streamed live for those that can’t attend in person to watch from the comfort of their own homes. Not only will the many insightful speakers be heard live, they can also be re-watched afterwards. Streaming and video archives will be on the Second Amendment Foundation’s respective YouTube and Facebook pages.

To highlight how awful NPR’s partisan “analysis” is, I took their tactics to homicide rates, which is of interest to the firearms community. Thanks to the great wonder (and sewer) that is the Internet, all the data is available to the public. You can find 2020 County Health Rankings National Data (copy) and County Presidential Election Returns 2000-2020 (copy) online. Looking at the two datasets, I found the Top 10 Counties by Homicide Rate and their 2020 Biden vote share. Here are the results (homicide rates are per 100,000 people):

1) Baltimore City (Maryland) – Homicide Rate: 39 – Biden Vote Share: 87.28%
2) St. Louis City (Missouri) – Homicide Rate: 39 – Biden Vote Share: 82.23%
3) Orleans (Louisiana) – Homicide Rate: 37 – Biden Vote Share: 83.15%
4) Petersburg City (Virginia) – Homicide Rate: 37 – Biden Vote Share: 87.66%
5) Dallas (Alabama) – Homicide Rate: 35 – Biden Vote Share: 68.46%
6) Macon (Alabama) – Homicide Rate: 33 – Biden Vote Share: 81.49%
7) Coahoma (Mississippi) – Homicide Rate: 33 – Biden Vote Share: 70.82%
8) Wilkinson (Mississippi) – Homicide Rate: 33 – Biden Vote Share: 66.61%
9) Phillips (Arkansas) – Homicide Rate: 32 – Biden Vote Share: 58.04%
