CBS columnist writes Christmas Eve column calling Tim Tebow a phony. He also calls him a “bad apple.” And a “bad practice player.” And a “horrible teammate.” Ever notice how the hatred directed at Christians reaches a crescendo at Christmas time? Apparently, in the eyes of columnist Peter Schwartz, the reason the Jets are such a dismal failure this year is the quarterback they didn’t let play.

    "When people talk about how you play football and how much, that’s one thing. That really doesn’t bother me. I think the only thing that’s been disappointing these last few days and frustrating is people saying, ‘Oh, you quit on your team, or you’re not a good teammate.’ For people to not know the situation, and then start to bash your character and then say you’re a phony or you’re a fake or you’re a hypocrite, I think that’s what’s disappointing. That’s what’s frustrating. Your character is who you are as a man, and that’s a lot more important. I take that way more seriously than I’ll ever take a football game."

    That's a man talking. Schwartz will never comprehend.

    • The "team" quitted on him and he had to do what he had to do. Asking someone to be mediocre for the sake of a team that is mismanaged and disrespectful to his talents and abilities is not a sane request. At the same time idiots like this disgusting man would have made fun of him if he had played well or wrongly. Tebow had NO WAY of winning in the eyes of this ugly and disgusting man. If he played he would have gotten it, if he played well still, if he played badly worst, if he didn't play and decided to leave to someone that appreciates his talents and wants him to play he gets hate. So he needs to do what he needs to do, but I understand if he wants to speak up for his character because it is under these circumstances a completely unfair type of hate.

      • Sure! Dialects vary quite a lot. Mostly this has more the sound of a 'K' and does in fact root in the term for broom, as in wisk broom. Those silly Germans and that spitzen shparken language of theirs! Oh yeah, don't forget they really bite into their 'W's so the word is more likely Visken to us.

  • I wonder if Peter Schwartz is Jewish. Schwartz tends to be a Jewish name. One of his sons is named Jared, which is a Jewish name. But one of his sons is named Bradley, which is an Irish name, so maybe he's Catholic. Although most Jewish people are tolerant of Christians, some in the media and entertainment have an ax to grind against Christianity. I've seen too many episodes of "Law & Order" and too many modern movies not to notice it. Whatever the truth, I sense a deep hatred in Schwartz to make Tebow look like a hypocrite and a phony as close to Christmas as possible.

    • I am a Bears fan, that's my team, & I really don't want him in Chicago. He is a decent football player, & he is an ok QB, IF he's a system built for him. Plus they already have Jay Cutler, who can be good if his offensive line was worth a sh!t, which it has'nt been lately. The Bears are not that, & 1st things 1st, they need to hire a head coach. Lovie Smith was 1 of 7 to get the sack on "Black Monday", & replacing him is the 1st thing on the agenda. The Tebow thing will take care of itself, hopefully in Jacksonville, & here's why...

      1. The Jaguars need help on & off the field. They lack an identity, & he could help in that. He could help that franchise along with Maurice Jones-Drew & Justin Blackman. That could be a nice foundation for the Jags.

      2. He played his college ball at Univ. of Florida, he has some roots in that part of Florida, & that would be the natural fit.

      ...but we will all have to wait until after the Super Bowl to find out what's going to happen.

  • Hmmmm...Tim Tebow v Schwartz. Let me see, Tebow actually wore an NFL uniform with a quarterback's # - and even though used sparsely this season, he actually made it into GAMES. Schwartz - lists his employment as a "CBS Columnist." Hmmmm...last I heard, CBS was a TELEVISION NETWORK - and NOT into the publishing game. The closest that Schwartz (a few too many happy meals) ever got to a football game - was the jockstrap/towel collector off his High School Football Team - and he most likely graduated from a HS with less than 425 students, and he, being the LAST male in the school - made the cut for the team as jockstrap/towel collector. Looser. ;-)

  • Many in and out of football despise Tebow. He is genuine individual that stands by his convictions. Listen to those that have played against him. The say things like "one of the toughest guys to bring down" "a lot of talent" and a "really good guy"

    Tebow might not be a NFL quarterback, I dont know. I was never lucky enough to have played at that level. I do however recognize NFL talent and he sure has that. Tight End, H Back. What galls all of the haters is that he is a man of deep religious beliefs and is unyielding on them. As for the disaster that is the Jets, look at the head coach, the GM, the owners. You can not blame a player who has seen very limited action for the mess that is the NY Jets.

    • That's what galls me. How can you blame the guy who didn't get a chance to play? And the few times he did get in the game they simply ran him up the middle like a fullback, which was stupid. He's a big quarterback who runs well. The whole point of having a running quarterback is that the other team doesn't know whether he's going to run or throw - if you just bring him in once a game to run up the middle, who is that going to fool? "Hey, Tebow is in the game," the other team will say. "They're probably going to hand him the ball for a run." Sheesh. Sometimes I think the average NFL coach is dumber than a bunch of rocks. Another area where they demonstrate their stupidity is their rigid adherence to the dictum that a QB has to be tall. Never mind Drew Brees, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and the young kid up in Seattle who is setting the world on fire. Did you watch the SF/Seattle game? The kid drove SF's defensive line crazy - they couldn't catch him. He ran around back there like Fran Tarkenton used to do, just waiting for somebody to get open. Everybody on a school playground knows short people are tough for big people to catch, but NFL coaches are oblivious. Doug Flutie had a career like Tim Tebows - he couldn't get an NFL start to save his life - so he finally went up to Canada and set the Canadian league on fire.

      • The Jets have lots of problems, but Tebow had nothing to do with them. He probably should'nt have gone to the Jets, but Jets owner Woody Johnson likes to make the NYC tabloid backpages & make a big splash rather then invest in a club that can compete with their NYC rivals, the Giants. Woody likes headlines, & the Mara family who owns the Giants is into winning Super Bowls. Oh, I know that NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath nade his name as a Jet, & he pushed the Super Bowl to the next level with his guarentee in Spuer Bowl III, but that was a long time ago, & Tim Tebow will move on & be just fine, & maybe in Jacksonville. As for Tebow in the CFL, I don't know. I follow the CFL, I been to a game each of the last 3 seasons in Winnipeg, & I'm not sure he can pass the ball well enough on a bigger field in usually windy conditions. Especially in Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, & sometimes Hamilton which is on Laek Ontario. I wish him well, but he needs to run a version of the spread offence, & he needs to improve his passing skills.

          • Tebow would look good doing fullback duty alongside Aaron in Green Bay. Not trying to suggest the women don't find him attractive, just my selfish desire for my lifelong favorite team to be top of the NFL. Dude can throw the pigskin very well. Dude is one large running back. Shrugs off defenders like flies. Trick plays? Call em what you want. Sorry to see the powers that be don't like my way of thinking, but that's nothing new.

    Is he hatin'? Of course. Tebow is delicious the hater is not. Tebow is a delicious Christian and for some reason Christians aren't supposed to be delicious... whatevs. If this guy is gay he could never have Tebow if this guy has a wife (is she blind?) she probably wants some serious Tebow deliciousness. Hate gives you a bad look and indeed it does again that guy is *vomit*
