The EU toy safety directive states that balloons must not be blown up by unsupervised children under the age of eight, in case they accidentally swallow them and choke. While their currency implodes and their economies collapse, the EU has pinhead bureaucrats micromanaging toddlers’ toys. This is the way Europe ends, not with a bang but with a loud, annoying, fart-like noise. Pffffft! (Yeah, that’s it.)

Classic selfishness-and-shortsightedness-are-patriotic-Amurrican-virtues teabagger mentality:
"Hey, I had lead paint on my crib, and I used to blow up balloons without supervision, and nothing happened to MEEEEEEE. That proves that those things won't hurt you, don't it?
"Hey, I had lead paint on my crib,"
Oh wow. I had no idea, Oblivia. Had I known, I would have been kinder to you.
If balloons are a hazard to your health, when's your next birth day?
LOL......!!!!
I see Jihad Jane is back again with another semi-intelligent post not related to the thread. Ron White said it, "You can't fix stupid".
Skank.
What a bunch of crap. When I was a kid our cribs and toys were painted with lead based paint. We rode our bikes without helmets, kneepads or elbow pads. We carried sparklers and lit off small fireworks on the Fourth of July. We blew up ballons and blew on whistle blowers at birthday parties.
If all these things are now so bad for kids today then why are so many of us baby-boomers still alive? You know, those of us who have worked and paid into the system all these years and now do not know if we will ever see a social security check because so many of us are still alive and well.
Kind of in the same vein, of people (or things) who just want to do what they think is best for the rest of us . . . do y'all know the famous "Three Laws of Robotics" coined by sci-fi legend Isaac Asimov and now forming a basic underpinning to a lot of sci-fi robotry?
The First (and most famous) Law of Robotics states that: "A robot shall not harm a human being, or through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm."
Read the second part very carefully, and give it some long, profound thought. Then look up an old story, "With Folded Hands," which portrays a world in which people have been made perfectly, perfectly safe.
It is not a story with what is called a "happy ending."
Well, let's be fair here - no really - according to the story, it says for balloons "there must be a warning that children under eight years must be supervised and broken balloons should be discarded." I bet we've already got that, and honestly, I don't think it's a bad idea, seeing how stupid some people are. If nothing else, it helps protect the mfgr from lawsuits. It doesn't look like a law that the balloon police are gonna come after people for (granted, one never knows.)
That said -- most of it does sound pretty silly. Not to mention meddling for meddling's sake: "... another EU official ... insisted that safety experts knew best.
"You might say that small children have been blowing up balloons for generations, but not anymore and they will be safer for it..."
Yeah I got no problem with a warning label. Trying to ban stuff though? Get stuffed. My goodness, what would Nanny say if she saw us bobbing for apples?!?!?
Is there an minimum age issue with condoms?
Haha, yeah, that's a whole different quantum level of stupid, innit? Are you familiar with famous/infamous Provincetown, Massachusetts? I think it was just last year the principal was dissuaded from handing out rubbers to SECOND GRADERS!!!
Honest to God, WTF man? What is the point? First, a 2nd grade boy doesn't have enough to hold one on! Second, a 2nd grade girl can't get pregnant! And the only other idea, if you're worried that your 2nd graders are buggering each other and infected with AIDS -- man o man, either you're monstrously sick for thinking that, or if that's the problem -- it's time to taunt the Chinese into nuking us, cause man, we are ffnng LOST.
No condoms or Planned Parenthood loses abortion money!
Good Lord! No balloons and no ketchup in one week! The horror! The horror!
Boy, I wonder how any of us survived childhood without the government ensuring that we all grow up in a little bubble of protection.
Jesus, I grew up in the 90's, and that was absolutely terrifying. Having to play outside in the big, scary world. Riding a bike *GASP* WITHOUT A HELMET!!! Jumping out of trees with a tarp, thinking it was a parachute. Running miles and miles for cross country in the freezing rain. Plus, there's ALL THOSE KID NAPPERS THAT WERE JUST WAITING IN THE WOODS TO SNATCH ME UP AND BRUTALLY MURDER ME!!!!
Thank gawd for gooberment protection.
Are they crazy?
"Whistle blowers, that scroll out into a a long coloured paper tongue when sounded – a party favourite at family Christmas meals – are now classed as unsafe for all children under 14. "
Let me get this straight - 14 year olds can shoot up heroin at "safe injection sites" located throughout Europe, but they can't be in possession of a Whistler Blower. Really.
I'm thinking we need to gather up all the balloons we can and send them to the White House, the EPA, the DOJ and most MSM outlets.
