There is no such thing as an "assault weapon". It is a phrase invented from thin air to inspire fear amongst the sheeple. There are "assault rifles" but it has never been legal to own one without a federal firearms license (the FFL requirement for for full autos pre-dates the invention of the assault rifle).

It seems pretty straight forward, the FFL requirement became law in 1934, the Sturmgewehr (first assault rifle) was a 1944 invention.

They check your criminal record for a weapon - is he saying we should check it before you can vote? So, how is it harder? A criminal record will prevent you from buying a weapon, but it's almost a prerequisite to run for office.

Actually, you're close. The true phrase would be: It's harder to vote illegally than it is to buy an assault weapon illegally. I can go downtown on the streets and find a weapon but I don't know how vote ten times without getting caught.
