Close inspection of alleged “draconian” cuts in Food Stamp program. “…the alleged $40 billion in cuts is really only $4 billion in a close to $80 billion program. They arrive at $40 billion by multiplying $4 billion by 10 years.” Not to mention the fact the program has more than doubled since 2007. Does “draconian” mean “hard to see without a microscope”?

They've done this kind of thing before, several times - tried to shriek that mean ol' 'publicans were slashing some program by 50%, when what we were doing was trying to REDUCE THE INCREASE by 50%.
I'd give them the actual food stuffs - powered milk, a bag of rice, peanut butter, etc.
It would be nutritious but very boring as an encentive to get their lazy butts to work.
I'd have them living on a farm, producing what they need, building their own hovels out of recycled materials.
Like living in Cuba? ;-)
I was in a Subway a few weeks ago when they received a phone call asking them if they took food stamps.
I would just let these unproductive parasites starve! >.<
I have heard that in some areas. Here in Texas you can't buy a roasted chicken from the Deli with food stamps. And they used to make home visits to ensure you had a means of storing food and cooking it.
They are always saying that Food Stamps 1) are not expected to cover all grocery costs, and 2) that they help the elderlty on limited incomes. The Food Stamp interviewers I spoke to indicated that the average amount of food stamps paid to a Social Security recipient (as most elderly are) is $10-$12. Here that won't buy milk, eggs and bread for the week. Much less real food.
More than half of that money I guarantee you will be stolen, used in G-d knows what schemes by who knows who...
Very few people who actually need the help will get the help the rest will be drug addicts, alcoholics and the rest who have a hang nail and won't work.
That $4 billion a year cut is in the increases, not the actual current budget, right?
This is the kind of crap that makes me not want to give my time, talent, or treasure to government sponsored charities...ever!
I guess that's why the IRS has to pry my money out of my wallet whether I want them to or not.
While they're at it their needs to be a few more changes, like SNAP cards only work for essential food items. And no, potato chips, soda, lobster, and prime rib are NOT essential.
Peanut butter, bologna, white bread, jelly, mustard, milk, margarine, mayonnaise, eggs, hamburger, chicken, pork roast, fresh or canned vegetables, store brand cereal (whole grain, no sugar), water, 100% fruit juice.
Sounds like a reasonable set of items to restrict the use of SNAP cards on.
Actually, I wouldn't necessarily include nasty processed to death white bread. And fruits and various dairy products. I lke the way WIC does it. They have coupons for specific foods, and the stores assist by labeling "this is an apporived WIC item>" But really, no chips, soda, candy, superprocessed boxed foods, etc. Oh, and I'm not wild about a steady diet of bologna either.
WIC is way better the EBT for that reason, it says EXACTLY what is on offer. Also, since we are on this subject, I feel compelled to roll this out again...

...EBT, EBT, I just swipe my EBT.
Food Stampso or EBT cards, are not considered welfare. You can be receiving them forever if your income and other assests meet the limits set by the government. It is called a nutrition assistance program, so I feel the food provided should be, you know, nutritious! Wic also requires some classes on how to strech their food at home. Food stamps should do the same. And they absolutely should not be used for fast food meals since they cost more than cooking at home and are pretty much nutritionless. If people claim they can't cook, require basic cooking classes and teach them. Like all such programs, just handing out money doesn't work in the long run.
But it doesn't & that is an issue. Also, the companies that run stores that accept EBT, they DO NOT CARE WHO IS PAYING. As long as someone is, they are down with this. One last thing, EBT is easy to get, easy to use, now in the form of a "credit card", & there is no longer a stigma for using it. Old school food stamps were somewhat embarrassing in a less PC time period in the nation. Sadly, not anymore.
Now, having EBT is a badge of honor among that segment of the population. It's like they're proud of scamming the government and us out of the money!
What? Some democrap lied? Get out of here...... :)

According to the CBO the bottom 40% of American earners paid NEGATIVE 9.1% of federal income tax. That means the rest of us paid OVER 100% of the federal income tax burden. Can we dispense with any more argument over whether or not we are living in a redistributive system?
