Well, I'm-a gonna do it again. Let's look a bit closer at all this. Vladimir Putin and Russia have annexed the Crimea and are threatening all of the Ukraine now. We have a tendency to side with the Ukrainians, for a number of reasons: Number 1, I think, being our long historical rivalry with Russia, or more specifically, the old USSR. Ukraine, in contrast, is only recently (in historical terms) an independent nation. Ukraine has been following a Western, European oriented trajectory, and has been aligning with Europe and NATO.
Now, let's back up and look at the entire picture. In particular, let's look at Europe. Who of us here are real fans of Europe? Europe is increasingly socialist and irreligious. Even those European countries which still maintain official established churches, such as Britain and Holland, are increasingly secular, and if anything are coddling the Mohammedan invasion, the silent jihad. Europe is constantly thrust under our noses as the model for health care, central planning, deference to the UN, and the blessings of bureaucracy.
Russians (and, to be fair, Ukrainians) have lived through the blight of Communism, and know that that is not the direction to travel in. Putin, although somewhat of an authoritarian, at least understands that. Note too -- under Putin, the long-suffering Orthodox Church has been revitalized and lives again in the open. Putin, in many of those macho propaganda pics where he is out hunting or shooting (rootin' tootin' shootin' Putin!) wears no shirt, and can be seen wearing a cross necklace. Even if his display of faith is a show for the cameras, he at least is legitimizing the advocacy of faith. That is more than most American politicians would do, let alone most Europeans. Can you imagine OUR Dear Leader appearing in public with a cross around his neck? (It would likely burn him.)
In short -- shouldn't we give consideration to the possibility that Putin is the one to support here? Do we really want to support the movement of the Ukraine into the European sphere of influence -- to become another open-bordered, agnostic, socialist land, little different than France or Germany? Welcoming the flood of Mohammedans who wish their host countries nothing but ill? Should we not consider the man who at least nominally shows support for a capitalist free market, Christianity, and Christian tradition? Is it not possible that those doomsayers who say that Western culture is decadent are exactly right -- at least with regard to European culture?
When we consider that our Dear Leader is sticking up for the Ukraine and pi$$ing lines in the sand again, should we not ask ourselves, "What the hell has he gotten RIGHT so far?"
I'm going to trust that Obama's judgement in this matter is as good as it's been in every other issue, and go with whatever he is against.
