Umm, sorta. According to this http://www.fff.org/freedom/fd0403a.asp , Hitler and Nazis never got more than 37% of vote or held a majority in the Reichstag, although they were the largest bloc of members after the 1932 election. Hindenburg was elected president in 1932 and, unable to forge a governing coalition, appointed Hitler chancellor in January 1933. After the Reichstag fire set by his supporters, Hitler persuaded the Parliament to "temporarily" delegate its powers to him to deal with the "emergency." He used these powers to make himself dictator.
I don't know if there are enough hard-core Marxists and fellow travelers to destabilize the government. I'd like to think that our traditions of government are so ingrained at this point that the vast majority of folks will not put up with any attempt to circumvent democratic elections. But, I'm almost 60 and I've come to realize a lot of crap has been taught in schools since my day. I don't know if younger people have the same loyalty to the Constitution and the election process that us old farts grew up with. I hope so.
Point is, and to Mr Singer too, the Nazi takeover was not an armed revolution. It was all by the book.
I dont want to be the bearer of bad news but.....no. I actually remember learning that the electoral college was useless and an old outdated approach to electing a president. I also remember learning the 2nd amendment was a way for states to form militia, not for personal use. This was all gov 101 in my high school by a then 26+ teacher fresh out of college. And I lived in a devotely conservative area. The Bill of Right was not covered but skimmed over, we just had to know the basics. Like when it was ratified, etc.......
I have many old friends from high school who believe Europe is superior and our country sucks, who are OPENly socialist and KNOW President Obama is a socialist. But who cares? Conservatives are dumb and capitolist are pigs = 20-25 year olds.
For every 2 conservatives, there are atleast 4 who are liberal and 4 who dont care enough to vote. In the future those 4 who do not care might swing right, but I am not counting on it. :(

That aside, if the Flea Party wants to start physically disrupting Tea Party events, that'll give me more incentive to go to the rallies. And I promise, everything I do will be in self-defense.

Akshully the Nazis were voted in, and the Bolsheviks were only part of a wider revolution; they came to power only because everyone else got fed up with trying to govern.
