In response to Obama’s amnesty plan, Cruz takes to floor of Senate and quotes Cicero. It was an inspiring moment but here’s the twenty-dollar question: is there anybody left in American politics—besides Cruz—educated enough to know who Cicero is?

I know who he is in the sense that I know he was a philosopher but I couldn't quote you anything from him by heart. With that said how many people would know him by reputation? Don't know but a lot of people took philosophy in college right?
Philosopher? Hmm, I guess officially they call him that, but his fame was for being a great orator and writer. If you read his speeches against Catiline, the first of which Cruz was quoting, it's almost unbelievable that a man could talk that long without losing his voice or losing his crowd. If I remember right, one of those famous speeches against Catiline came AFTER he spent most of the day prosecuting the case against Catiline in the senate - then he went outside and gave that long-ass speech to the citizens of Rome so they would know what was happening too. He must have loved hearing his own voice.
Well... he was a philosopher... it is possible to be more than one thing at one time... and he is BIG in College philosophy courses and civics... so... that is how I know him as a philosopher. Sorry that I didn't have the time nor the inclination to dig in further as it wasn't necessary for what I had to do at the time and you know... I have a life.

His main profession was lawyer. He was a bitch to translate in Latin III. Caesar was much easier.

By the way, I met Ed Shames the other day. He was one of the original Toccoa Band of Brothers. He is the last surviving officer from Easy Company. 92 years old and looking very fit and he was mentally sharp. I met him at a service plaza on the Florida turnpike. Very nice guy and justly proud of his service but still very humble.
How will The Turtle discipline Cruz for daring to tell the truth and actually go after king Barky the Liar of Fecal touch?

I would love to see Cruz overpower Mbtich and take control of the Senate.
It looks like One guy understands how bad things are and knows that history is repeating itself as we watch...The rest of them are like dogs at a dog park, sniffing ass is way more important.
It would be nice if history continued to repeat itself: Cicero convinced the Senate to act, they foiled Catiline's plans, and eventually sentenced him to death. (It didn't turn out super dandy for Cicero, but hey, the republic was saved for the moment.)
