David Brooks on the anticipated failure of the Super Committee: “Welcome Greece. We are going to be Greece.” No doofus, unlike Greece which cannot issue Euros, the US can PRINT as many dollars as it wants to satisfy its debts. If anything, we will be Weimar Germany, not Greece. Brooks agrees with Mark Shields “there is no center.” And all this time, Barry thought he was the center.

Looks like Spain finally gets it. They booted out their left wing government today. That would be the same left wing government that caved in to al Qaeda after the Madrid train station bombing.
Obama may be seeing his own future here. According to the article, the election was all about jobs and a lack of confidence in the left wing government.
But David told me that the crease in 0bama's pants would make him the greatest president in the history of the universe.
IOW, If brooks says something it is wrong. Not always wrong like Krugman but you will never lose money betting against Brooks predictions. The NYT must be putting concentrated stupid in the water coolers.
If anything, we will be Weimar Germany, not Greece.
Excellent point.
Just like an Obese person, the federal government has gotten to the point where it eats everything in sight....Intervention is needed now to limit the intake of this fat ass.
Thank you Big Government!
Thank You Lyndon Johnson! Thank You Great Society for getting us started on this disastrous path. Thank You Obama for taking the ball and running with it!
Fu@king IDIOTS!
You're right but it goes further back. The creation of the Federal Reserve and going off of the gold standard are two things among others that have made the massive debt possible. Our "leadership" has been buying votes with fiat currency for some time now.
Did you see where the Super Committee is meeting today to craft their message to us stating that they failed to cut a single dollar from the debt?
I don't see their "failure" as a bad thing... Dems want an increase in taxes as part of the deal. If they "fail" they don't get them and automatic cuts go into efffect. Yes mostly in military spending, but we know there is some fat in the military budget. Let 'em "fail. We get cuts in spending, without tax increases. We win.
But, they'll just cut the military budget and spend the money on some useless pork project that Harry Reid likes. Can you say cowboy poetry festival?
Can you say cowboy poetry festival?
LOL Poppa. It's was automatic cuts... not automatic transfer of funds. We, the people need to hold 'em to it. If the Republicans have the guts to follow through with their promises then great, if not then we know what we have to do.
OK, look at it this way. When was the last time money was cut from the budget that wasn't transferred to another pet project?
Has the budget EVER decreased?
Have tax revenues EVER been returned to the people without there being a corresponding shortfall elsewhere?
It's all smoke and mirrors. When government has tax revenue, they always find a way to spend it rather than cutting spending.
Has the budget EVER decreased?
Have tax revenues EVER been returned to the people without there being a corresponding shortfall elsewhere?
Yes!...are you forgetting the mini depression of the 1920's? you know the one that the left doesn't like to talk about... they cut both taxes and spending and like...wow...it worked. Who knew?
Harding did that but all you hear about him from the state controlled education system is the Teapot Dome Scandal.
yup!
of course that was before FDR and all the entitlement crap we got now
And they never looked back!
True, now then do I think THIS congress will cut anything...no.
Super Committee? don't you mean the Obama Shill Committee?
Did anyone really expect them to cut anything?
