Hence, today’s politics is just a noisy kabuki dance meant to distract the rubes.

I'm a veteran. I have every right to complain, regardless of whom I voted for. But I certainly won't vote libertinearian cuz of their pie-in-the-sky (imo) border stance*.

Since I understand the reasoning behind the open border stance, and all of the other planks that would have to be enacted first, I vote Libertarian every chance I get.
If you want business out of government then you must get government out of business.
But what do I do if I want business to stop acting like government?
What can I do to stop Google (and the rest) from performing all the irresponsible acts that one finds in the preface back-story of a dystopian sci-fi novel?
Limit use Google and start patronizing alternatives. I know that might be hard. But we are at the beginning of this brave new digital world. When sufficient demand exists for alternatives the supply will arise (it will probably exist before the demand). This is already happening. The ultra private alternatives are crude and slow but they are taking form and Google is sowing the seeds of its own destruction by being callous to what the consumer might want. When this becomes more evident and close to being inevitable then Google will petition the government to regulate their competition out of business in the name of protecting the people from monopoly. Which is pretty much what the so called "robber barons" did a century ago when they realized that their plans for cartelization of industry were impossible to achieve without government control of those industries.

Probably not, too many people out there that think more regulatory power for those institutions that have taken away our choice, and thus our power over business, is the only remedy to the devastation that their regulatory powers have already brought about. Which, of course, seems to make a lot of sense on the face of things. Which is why there needs to be far broader economic education in this country. People need exposure, not exclusive of course I want them to have a wide variety of schools of thought to choose from, to more forms of thought than the one form they are presently inundated with.
Was bound to happen when the amount of money required for these lifetime parasites to stay in office exceeded their morals.

Of course, as is always the case, the answer is in moderation. But, sadly, we have to get screwed by the rich until we turn into a howling mob of socialists; then we get screwed by the socialists and turn into a howling mob of greedy self-interested bastards.
I don't want to work for an all-consuming government OR a bunch of corporate self-declared "alpha dogs."
No, Ayn Rand, selfishness is not a virtue. No, Gordon Gecko, greed is not good. And having all of our goods produced by a few massive corporations is not a damn bit better than having them all provided by a centralized government.

The science of politics is the determination of who has to cough up money and who gets it.
The art of politics is convincing those who pay that it is being done for their own good and they are really the winners in the transaction.
As presently constituted, nothing in politics lies outside of these parameters.
There's a word for that system of politics. Corruption. To quote Iowahawk, to get the money out of politics, get the politics out of money. Politics will be considerably less polarized, dishonest and corrupt when the government backs off it's control to the levels of 50 years ago.
