DC school official caught using fake handicapped-parking placard

• The faking here is Rampant. They even busted a city coucilman using one since the parking downtown sucks. And the handicap that seems most common handicap is morbid obesity.

    Women, at 25.1%, are more likely to be obese than men, 18.9% of whom are obese.
    Residents with diabetes and high blood pressure have high rates of obesity
    Residents who ate 5 or more fruits or vegetables daily were less likely to be overweight or obese.
    The wards with the most grocery stores, organic food and farmers markets, Wards 2 and 3, had the lowest rates of obesity; Ward 8 had the fewest healthy food options and had the highest rate of obesity.
    High school aged boys were more likely to be obese, at 19% than their female counterparts, 15.8% of whom were obese.
    30% of high school aged youth get the recommended 60 minutes of exercise 5 days of the week.
    Rates of obesity have increased over a 5 year period from 2003 -2007 for high school aged youth.
    Rates of physical activity as well as fruit and vegetable consumption decreased over a five year period from 2003-2007 for high school aged youth.
    Good nutrition standards in schools may be undone by easily accessible unhealthy food surrounding schools.

        • Oh they definitely learn more, just not subjects normally covered in school. Burglary, the going price of multiple drugs, assault, weapons training, etc.

• I always felt that the ADA was nothing more than a scam to let some people abuse a parking spot close to a door. I don't know how many times I've seen perfectly healthy, hardy and hale people get out of grandma's caddie, place a blue tag on the rear view mirror and walk into the store for a day's shopping, or into a restaurant for a day's grazing. It's always been bullshit!

  • I drive my Dad to the grocery store all the time and I see people look at me suspiciously when I get out of his car in a handicapped spot, but then when my 94-year-old father struggles out the other side with his WWII cap on, they understand. Thing is, when I use his car without him and even when he's in the car but not getting out, I don't use handicapped parking. I figure the advantage is for him, not me.

    My dad has a placard he's supposed to hang from his rear view mirror when he parks. A couple years ago when he was still driving he forgot to hang it at the grocery store. The handicapped parking cop came by (we have special cops for that here in Michigan - retirees earning a little extra money) and was about to write a ticket when he saw the World War II license plate - when Dad came out of the store, he told him, "I figured anybody old enough to be in World War II probably had a handicapped placard somewhere."

    • I had a temporary placard for six months when I had surgery done on my left knee. I was walking, but with a cane, for the first few weeks, then just gimping along for the next couple of months.

      After a couple months, I STILL parked in the south forty, because that's where I prefer to park.

  • Not completely, but it's true, there are plenty of abusers. Here in Florida they are watching for just that. If you get caught using a placard and the person it's assigned to isn't in the car, you get ticketed, and the placard gets pulled. We have one for my father in law, but only use it when we have him with us. Funny thing about that, try finding an open spot in Wal Mart! They have more of them than any other place, but they're never empty.

• Most if not all of DC school officials are handicapped. They are bleeding leftist who have failed those that they are suppose to help educate. "The children" as Jocelyn Elders says.

  • Oh, hell! If she only makes $112k/year, I understand her needing to save money on parking! After all, it's not like school officials have a good benefit package or anything, they might even have to pay 3% of their healthcare costs!

    • I agree, and to hell with any disabled students who had to walk from three blocks away because she took the last handicapped spot. I hope she marked them tardy and gave them detention.
