  • Ok... the Obama quip made me laugh...

    For what I understand beef wasn't wildly available in Korea until the late 70's. I think it was illegal in ancient times for the pleb to eat beef (it was for royals and elites). Once those measures relaxed and beef (and pork) became more available by the mid to late 80's, the amount of people that eat dog in Korea declined sharply, but obviously there are still people that do and it is my understanding that only certain breeds are verified for consumption but of course people will do what people will do behind closed doors.

    I don't agree with it and many generation of Korean x and y and millennials and those after, refuse to eat dog and that has essentially helped with the decline. I think that by the time people 55 and older (right now) start to die out, dog consumption in South Korea will be more of a cultural rarity than anything else and perhaps it will just die out with these past generations.

    Now mistreating your product before consumption or being sold for consumption is a bad business plans. Animals that you are going to eat need to be treated right and healthily in order to have the best product for consumption. If they couldn't do right by the customers nor the animals then it is appropriate that they go out of business.

      If we still lived in a Republic I would be very much in favor of robust immigration into the country. But we now have a kleptocracy in which voters exist to siphon of wealth, for themselves and the government, from the producers. Not only that but the state stands ready to oppress all sorts of natural rights just so long as a majority of the people (and even more often when a very small but vocal minority of the people) are for it. And I am absolutely not willing to give up what remains of our enlightenment ideals by importing bigoted, homophobic, misogynist anti-freedom individuals whose vote will be used to disenfranchise mine.

  • I don't understand why some folks are repulsed by other folks eating horse meat or dog meat or cat meat. We eat pigs, chickens, cows, snakes, etc. I love dogs as pets and would not allow another to make a meal of them. But what is the ethical difference between eating cow meat and dog meat?

    • People eat rabbits and they are essentially very sound choice for environmentally friendly, economical, and other reasons. However I couldn't eat it since I prefer to have them as pets. But I can understand others breeding for food and eating it. So yeah I am not going to be (mis) judging people here.

    • Most of the native tribes in the west raised dogs for food and they liked horse or lion meat when they could get it. I know quite a few Navajo people and they still eat dog for certain ceremonies the bilagaana, white men, are not allowed to attend or even see. I have also read old accounts where settlers coming west were forced to eat their horses or mules and more than one historian has referred to the mountain men of the early 1800's claiming lion meat was the best meat available in the west. I am sure I eat monkey meat a few times when I was in Cambodia years ago, it was considered a delicacy to the Lao and Khmer sects in the country. It's a cultural thing and people who stick their noses into others business risk making enemies of them.

    • True it is all a matter of conditioning. I don't think poorly of anyone that eats dogmeat; but at the same time I will never pass up an opportunity to zing Obama for it. Especially since it only became widely known only after the Romney campaign used it to hit back against MSM charges that Mitt engaged in animal cruelty. Had those guys done that more often Romney might be President today.
