The point is that when people tried to worship him as a god, Paul corrected them. Adamantly and emphatically, according to the Bible. It’s an important point and a basic flaw in the Roman Catholic Church, that one man is elevated to the absurd point of being labeled “infallible” when only God should be elevated. Even the Old Testament makes this point: Moses led the Jews out of slavery and across the deserts for forty years, but when he took credit for God’s miracle, he was forbidden entry to the Promised Land.
I say this as a man who converted to Catholicism as an adult and finds so many of the best Christians he knows are Catholic. The hierarchy is a flaw, a dangerous flaw. And the notion of an infallible Pope is the biggest flaw of all, with this nutjob congressman acting like the Pope’s saliva can provide miracles being the perfect example of why it’s a flaw. Who is Rep. Brady worshipping when he treats the Pope’s water glass like a religious relic? God? I don’t think so.

Granted the Pope is not anything close to Jesus, but his disciples also performed miracles. Paul used a point of contact such as prayer cloths for those that were too sick to travel.

What I'm driving at is it's not that strange with him being a devout Catholic and believing the Pope to be close to God.
