Desperate investment bank entertains novel suggestion

In Japan they don't sit on the toilet, they squat over it

Desperate investment bank entertains novel suggestion. How bad is the worldwide financial crisis? Japanese investment bank Nomura, its share price languishing, might replace company sit-down toilets with Japanese-style toilets… which require squatting. “The company can surely avoid failure if they straddle over a Japanese-style toilet every day and strengthen their lower body,” says one shareholder. Hey, it’s a better idea than anything Barack Obama has suggested.

    • "As far as the Japanese go, (cough)"

Don't start another waste pun thread. The soil here is too fertile to risk planting the seed.

    • Well this is a good day now. I've learned a new word. "Coprophagous." Which means feeding on dung. And I've already thought of three places where I can use it.

      • You might also like the term Pica in general for a host of names.
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_(disorder)
Like how hollywood bimbos eat ice (least I saw that in a movie) making them cases of Pagophagia.

Most importantly so far as what's not on that link, chthonophagia is the eating of dirt specifically.

Someone had studied Pica as their lecture and research paper in one of my psychology classes, way back when. I also asked for a copy of the paper.

  • They're not all that hard to use, and floor toilets are far from just a japanese concept.
Rest assured however, there's usually a sit-down one somewhere nearby.

So when you get tired, you waddle over to the sit-down with your pants around your ankles? Lovely.

      • No, I meant in a different restroom that's actually intended to "back up" (as in reserves not clogging) the squat one you found.

They have squat toilets because as funny as it sounds, they're healthier. I don't mean for your legs either, it's actually less stressful to your body and easier to go.

I decided to be nice and google it for you guys.

        • Yes I've heard that...and I have heard of some Americans using a stool to get their legs up higher when sitting on an American toilet. They claim it makes it easier to poop. No straining, they say. They also say it's closer to how nature had designed it for us to go...you know like when we were still living in caves.

        • See!? I was right! Your Googled instructions explicitly mention that peeing and pooping on your pants is a risk. For God's sake, they tell men to pee before they squat because doing both at the same time increases the risk of soiling your clothes. Are you kidding?

No thanks, I'll wait ten days to get back to my own country rather than poop into my own shorts.

          • You obviously pee first... Unless you really really really gotta go.

Still, you won't poop (or pee) in your pants if you sit properly, but stuff might fall out of your pockets like it says. LOL I'm thankful that's never happened to me.

One thing I think it failed to note was that there's usually a trash can for tissue paper, but that applies to almost all sit down toilets too.

Just wait till you've gotta do your business in a dirt hole full of poo.

          • "You obviously pee first…"

How is that obvious? I'm not usually pondering sequence when I visit a toilet. And what if you need to pee again during the bombing run? I'd never get any good reading done with all this synchronization occupying my thoughts.

  • They are also planning single sheet toilet paper dispensers so everyone can be like Cheryl Crow and only wipe with 1 sheet of paper.

  • What are you supposed to do when you're too old to hold a squat? The knees don't last forever, just ask any MLB catcher!

    • More importantly, if you pull your pants down around your ankles and squat, don't you end up pooping in your pants? So what have you accomplished?

      • If you pull your pants all the way down to your ankles, you can't adopt the "wide stance" needed to keep your feet out of the toilet!
Maybe that's why Larry Craig was using the "wide stance", he was used to the Japanese toilets.

        • I think we need female input on this. I've often wondered how women go in the woods without peeing on their own pants. As for the wide stance, the diagram doesn't make it clear how wide the toilet it... now you've got me worried about my aim.

Maybe I better stay away from Japan.

      • This style is a perfect example of the "Democrat Stimulus Toilet."

        • I really don't think we should be talking about "stimulus" in this context. That's the kind of thing that got George Michael in trouble.
