LMOAO...What are the protesters going to do, burn down all the empty buildings? Let 'em riot then sleep out in the cold next winter when there are no more abandoned buildings to live in.
I do feel sorry for the working, law abiding citizens there though. Those folks need to buy a couple of shotguns so they can blow their doors down (ala Joe Biteme) when the lawless try to take what they have worked for.

My racist comment for the night. Detroit was rolling right along, even with Democrat leadership until after WWII. The blacks the South had been dealing with for some 80 years following the war of Northern Agression, all decided they could do better in the North. So they moved en masse to cities like Detroit and Chicago. Now Detroit looks just like N****r town in Mississippi. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Now I've heard War Between the States from *old* Southern relatives.. but Northern Aggression? Never in casual conversation..

Actually I had relatives fighting on both sides of the war, War of Northern Aggression is the Southern term, since that's how they see it. And in some ways they are correct. Slavery was already on its way out until the Cotton Gin was invented, and Northern Mills supported slavery because they wanted the unending supply of cotton. Initially, only a few abolitionists were screaming to free the slaves. While I don't think slavery was right, we have to remember that it was common in the time, and only the big plantaion owners had many slaves. Alot of smaller holdings were worked by white families who never owned slaves. They stepped up to fight for the Confederacy, not to continue slavery.
My daddy's from Tennessee--his extended family has farms in Pennsylvania, Virginia and the Carolinas (he was a farmboy). I personally never not once heard anyone call it the War of Northern Aggression (even out of the Old Dominion). That phrase has always been uttered by someone making a political point about the North. It was either the Civil War or the War Between the States to my child's ears.
I don't intend to elevate the North either as some bastion of enlightened abolitionism, either. The South was willing to start a shooting war to preserve slavery. The North was not willing to start one to abolish it. But they did finish the one that the South started.
What you say about small white farm holdings is true. The mirror situation existed in the North. Most simply fought to preserve the Union. Both the North and the South drafted men into service.
There was also a plenitude of small-time slaveowners, outside of plantations. Merchantry, academics, and other well-to-do who owned 1-2 house slaves... for status, for handywork/maintenance and cleaning, and even for occasional sexual gratification. They provided natural cultural bulwark for the plantation owners who held most political power and the most to lose economically from loss of the institution.
The war was not about slavery as much as the industrial north taxing the hell out of the south. Lincoln did not free the slaves until AFTER the war started.
Many in the north had slaves at the time, and it was the northern shipping merchants who were importing the slaves.
Not to say slavery was not an issue, but it was not THE issue, despite what is taught today.

I've always considered Civil War to be two or more factions fighting to gain control of a country. The South had no interest in gaining control of the North. Therefore, I refuse to call it a Civil War.
So the 12 people that are left are going to get drunk and riot? Good luck with that there is not much left to steal since the politicians got it all first. Wonder if the Muslims from Dearbornistan will move in and take over like they do all over the middle east. Behold the fruit of 50 years of Democrat rule, Detroit is bankrupt and cannot repay its debts. Half the population has fled the city while 50% of the remaining residents are functionally illiterate and unemployable. Crime is rampant while the the streets aren't lit at night. Detroit politicians are corrupt thieves, many of them are in jail or on parole.
Their solution? Civil disobedience to maintain the status quo.
Lets see how long "civil" disobedience stays civil. If I lived in Detroit (or any of those horrid democrat-infested cities) I would get the heck out NOW. It's about to get ugly, as reality hits. They are in deep doo-doo and the freebies are about to stop.

I say let Detroit burn. They voted, continually,for decades, for the people pushing the policies that ruined their city, they should reap the "rewards." Only, they don't get to bitch and expect everyone else to bail them out. Let it burn. Then others can build atop their ashes.

Just put up a perimeter guard, so the rioting doesn't spill over into other areas, and let them do what they will. Then, no clean up, no repairs. They can fix it themselves, or live in it.

Well, here's the problem that no one wants to mention: they will come steal it from us if we don't give it to them. Yep - we are enablers. We are that pathetic old lady in the dirty apron who keeps giving her abusive adult some drug money so he doesn't get mad and beat her with the baseball bat again. (If you watch true crime shows, you know the lady I am referring to...)
