I have a kinda serious Q because I'm pretty ignorant about this aspect; What's the 'shelf life' of this type ammo and just where the hell is it stored after they buy it?
Shelf life is pretty much indefinite, as long as it's not stored in extreme heat or underwater.
But it's not just DHS stockpiling ammo. There are agencies doing it who have no use for ammo. That just makes people distrust the gov't even more then they already do.
Like the Post Office and Dept of Agriculture?

The more crap like this I see the more I like my home, New Mexico. We may be run by a bunch of liberal fools but our fools know enough to leave our guns alone. We can pack them in plain sight, we can carry one under our shirt or the women in their purse.
Our violent crime rates are pretty low, except in that turdhole called Albuquerque, because criminals understand one simple fact. You never know who might be carrying a weapon and most of us are willing to use it.

Why would DHS need that much? besides to control the supply. They just had a problem with worn out rifles where the DHS made Border Patrol Agents "share" them from shift to shift. So now these guys are going to practice with about half a million rounds each? Plus the fact the DHS won't let them shoot at illegals who attack the Border Patrol?
So Lets see, No rifles, can't shoot, perhaps the DHS is going to throw handfuls of ammo at criminals.
