Doctors call for HPV shots for boys. Given that the government doesn’t seem to believe that choice extends beyond nine months and a woman’s womb how long to you think it will be before this sort of thing is mandated? For the good of the children of course.

  • There are some sound medical reasons for the vaccine, but every time I try to post anything, it gets blicked. At any rate, it is not about sexual activity or promiscuity, nor encouraging sex for teens. It is to prevent disease; the HPV itself, and remove the risk of the development of some cancers. Like any drug, treatment or vaccine, the benefit should outweight the risk.

    • I don't know, Rose. A new study says the HPV vaccines are only reducing HPV-16 infections by 0.6% among females who are receiving the vaccines versus females who aren't. Is this worth the risk? According to the VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) database, there have been 24,610 adverse reactions to the vaccines, 3,629 of them serious.

      Laura Ingraham devoted much of the third hour of her radio program today to this subject. She took some horrible calls from people who talked about otherwise healthy girls and young women suffering seizures, paralysis, and other problems in the weeks and months after taking the shots. She did post one call on her website from a man named Marcus who thinks the vaccines are safe and effective. I don't know for sure either way, I'm not a medical expert. But I remain skeptical of the vaccines and suspicious of their manufactuerers' (profit) motives.

      • There have certainly been some serious adverse reactions, most recently an association with heart problems and clotting issues. But they are not that frequent (when compared to the total number of recipients) and the vast majority of those reacitons are things like sore arms, bruising, redness, and a mild fever. All found in MOST vaccines. I do think as more people are exposed, there will be some more unexpected reactions identified. That happens with pretty much every vacinem treatment or drug (look at the NSAIDS like Celebrex) but that doesn't necessarily mean they shouldn't be given.

        • I just belive that they shouldn't be given. They should be asked for (and paid for) privately by individual parents on behalf of their kids once the parents and kids had a serious and full discussion of the pros and the cons and the reasoning to take the vaccine.

          It is a behavioral situation. The HPV is not randomly seeking random people to infect. A person standing on the corner just standing there minding their own business is not going to get it by standing on the corner. You get it through a series of activities that you want to get into. I think we all have read enough posts to know what I am talking about.

          Government should be behind this, if there is demand for the thing then it should be made available to the paying masses that want to take it for themselves or for their children (after speaking to their kids about it). Since this is behavioral there has to bea discussion overall if there is no discussion I would find that to be a sad family indeed.

          • I mean when does it end? We can assume that the best option for people not to get it is by not having sex or by subsidizing birth control, so alongside immunization we have condoms being sent to the kids or being disbured freely (on tax dime) in the schools. Or else forcing people not to have sex at all through oppressive laws, or else doing female and male castrations by force on those that cannot control themselves (or worst even those that can). There is nothing good that comes from goverment deciding what is good for you or not. If such a vaccine exists and people WANT THIS FOR THEIR CHILDREN, they should pay for it themselves, know all the pros and the cons an discuss it fully with their children. Not just take the child and give it to them, as it is BEHAVIOR that will create the risk of the disease. It is not like getting vaccinated against smallpox or something where no actual behavior gets you sick. I think that the pharma company is having hard time having these vaccines be provided on the private sector and it NEEDS government funds. Itis pathetic. If the demand was not there then why create it in the first place? IF the demand is there then why need government funds so much?

          • I understand the choice thing. I just think everyone is a little hysterical because THIS vaccine is for an STD. Certainly preventing cancer is on everyone's radar. That's what this vaccine does. It prevents certain cancers from developing by not allowing the trigger that cause them. If someone offered you a vaccine to prevent breast cancer or colon cancer, would you take it? Probably so. We know that HPV is certainly an STD, but there are cases of someone not sexually active, or monogamous with only 1 partner ever (who is negative) and they still get the HPV. It is not solely behaviour induced. This vaccine costs $130 per injuection (there are 4 in the initial vaccination regimen, same as DPT) Frequently if it is not mandated, not only with the public health sector not pay (yes, the government) but private insurance will likely not pay either. I would hate to think a woman got cervical or uterine cancer because her parents couldn't afford $1000 or so to immunize her. How much do you think her treatment will cost?

          • Certainly, that is why when I am ready to be sexually active with as many people as possible, I will put the HPV vaccine on the budget. At this point in time, I am not in need of it an as a child I was not in need of it either. However, if my Mom was aware that I was a child ho and this vaccine was available she would have smack me around, told me to stop being a child ho and get my self in line. If I got sick, I got sick. However ANOTHER Mom who is permissive and "understands" that children want to have sex, can just say to the daugther well since you are having sex let's get you vaccinated. She pays for it, or gets insurance to do it.

I can understand that others do not. That is why we have insurance, however I would probably not take it on the experimental levels which in essence is what this vaccine is still on. There has to be an entire generation of test cases before I take it. An insurance company can make a lot of money by having HPV side insurance. For the people in the family that can become sexually active, and want to prevent the diseases they can certainly get it by paying an additional premium. Parents can certainly look ahead on this since it is available and if the demand is there the private companies will oblige.

It is not solely behaviour induced." Do you have documentation to support this please? Women can get cancers for sure, however through the STD and without sexual activity and a negative one partner?

    • Govt is about controlling people. Plain and simple. This whole concept of "my body, my choice" is a scam, because only one option is encouraged, so there is really no choice at all.

  • I remain unconvinced of the vaccines' safety. I don't think they were studied long enough. I think the pharmaceutical giants are compromised on the vaccines by financial interests. My sister got this vaccine for my oldest niece when she was 11. I tried to warn her away from it. My sister was surprised at what an ordeal it turned into for her daughter and has some concerns about the vaccine's safety. She is not getting the shots for her two younger daughters saying they can make up their own minds when they're 18. Michele Bachmann remains skeptical of the vaccines' safety and Rick Perry says he regrets pushing the vaccine as the Governor of Texas. In no way should these vaccines ever be mandated by law.

    • He may regret it, but so far I don't remember him admitting that he got paid. If girls and boys remained girls and boys until they are adults and able to deal with their health issues on their own, this would not be necessary to begin with.

  • To an 11 year-old boy: "and these 3 shots are so you won't get cancer when you give a girl oral sex." I have a feeling a lot of girls aren't going to get any.

    • EXACTLY. To this day what's his name cowboy governor doesnt want to admit he got paid by whomever pharma for the crap he wanted girls to take a few years ago. I can't still forgive that boy for that.

  • Fantastic. We are really equalizing the sexes now by asking boys to do it just as girls were asked... I am also using the word ask quiet lightly here :-/
