Also notice in the video that the guy isn't surprised by the sound of gun shots, but that they were in the afternoon, not later in the day when he would expect them.

I wouldn't be surprised by the sound of gunshots at any time of day there. This guy was probably not used to hearing them earlier in the day, because he's usually asleep then.
