Yep, lost him 3 days before Christmas. But I like to think he lived 2 lifetimes. He lived for 18 years 7 months 2 weeks and a day. That's quite a long, long life for a doggie.
My oldest cat died last fall. But as you said, she had a good long life. Not exactly sure of her birthdate,since she was abandoned by her mommy, but we figure she lived about 16 anda half years. Translates to some 94 human years. I still miss her.
Little critters have a way of getting into our hearts, don't they? Abner was born into the family. My dad owned his mother and I got the pick of the litter. I think I chose well and he certainly served the family well. Best snake dog ever. Kept my kids safe. My step-mom help with his birth and I did my best to comfort him and help ease his way out when the time had come. I feel blessed to have had him as a member of the family for so long.
I have always known dogs were smart. Glad the "experts" are finally catching up to what we all already knew.
This makes me wonder why Obama risked getting a dog, which just might show that it's smarter than him.

He's got 2 of them now. I want to see how log he has them after he leaves The White House. Staffers can take care of the dogs now, but I doubt he, Michelle, or the kids will after they leave.

Hell, my poodle is smart enough to take over two departments in the current admin.
The dept of defense. Because even though hes neutered, he still has more balls than any liberal (and he thinks he's a Rottweiler)......AND the dept of health, he is ready to take you for a walk any time you are ready to go.....even if you AREN'T ready to go.
Hmmm, come to think of it, he HAS had surgery when he was neutered, so that should qualify him as surgeon general also.
Maybe we can put some dogs in charge of our State Department to raise the intelligence level there. Intelligence is in short supply, and common sense no where to be found at DOS.
