Donald Sterling ruled mentally unfit, can’t prevent Clippers sale: When fascism prevails you can be sure that it will have been preceded by a “good cause”. A cause like assuming the authority necessary to punish a racist a-hole for the crime of having non appropriate feelings and equally non appropriate thoughts. By the way, if you didn’t catch it, we clearly stated that Donald Sterling is a racist a-hole. So please don’t report us to the authorities. We would sure hate for them to confuse our love of life, liberty and property for a mental illness and then remove any of those things from us.

Let's keep things in perspective folks.
The Constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting freedom of speech". It does NOT say "...nor shall the NBA".
Just as we take a stand on freedom of association when it comes to Augusta (Master's Golf Tournament place), or the Catholic Church, we should apply the same principles to the NBA.
This is a private organization applying their own rules of conduct. Rules that were known to all when joining this private club. Rules that were designed with nothing more in mind than maximizing sales and profits.
If I had an employee walking around saying things to my clients/customers that Mr Sterling said, I sure as shit would be looking to fire his ass forthwith. Political correctness be damned either way. It's about good business.

If the private thoughts of th e majority of Americans were paraded publiclyy there would be anarchy. That's why your mother told you to keep your Thoughts to yourself.
Plus, it's obvious from this ruling, that he's got dementia, and doesn't really know what he is saying. Is this another part of the move by the government to take away your guns through someone else declaring you are mentally ill? Now they will take away your property because someone claims you are ill?
While I agree that the tactics involved here are something that the gov either uses, or is now thinking about it. Declarations of mental illness on the part of the gov is not new. The USSR and the ChiComs have been doing it for decades. And deep down, IMO, all gov people would go down that road given the chance. It's power, and the thirst for power is in their DNA>
But in this case, no one is taking Sterling's property. His property will change forms. He will end up with 2 billion dollars on a 12 million dollar investment. As for the squabble in re his mental state, that is also a private matter. He was declared mentally incompetent by other private citizens, from what I understand, in accordance with rules previously set up by the trust. If he has an issue with that, he has the right to a civil court to challenge that.
While I agree with you the first amendment restricts the governments ability to control free speech but not the private sector, I believe this entire case should be in the dumpster because the taped conversation was illegally obtained. Or so I'm led to believe it was. How can that be used as evidence in ANY case because of it's illegality? Am I wrong on that point?
It can't be used as evidence in a court of law. The NBA is not restricted by any constitutional requirement of presumtion of innocence.
This is like when McDonalds switched from styrofoam clamshell containers to cardboard. Someone brought it to their attention that environmentally, cardboard is worse than styrofoam. McD's answer was basically "we don't care. If the people want something they percieve as "greener" we give it to them, whether they are right or not"
Whether the people are right or wrong about Sterling is irrelevant. If his presence is hurting sales, the NBA is in the business of selling tickets and attracting tv viewers, not in educating consumers in fairness.
If the gov dictated to the NBA to get rid of Sterling, I would have a problem with that.
Personally, I couldn't give a rat's ass if the entire NBA collapses.

I don't even have an issue if someone decides they want to boycott the NBA over this. As long as the gov stays the hell out of private decisions.
