    FTA: Here are two jokes one can no longer tell on American television. But you can still find them in the archives, out on the edge of town, in Sub-Basement Level 12 of the ever-expanding Smithsonian Mausoleum of the Unsayable. First, Bob Hope, touring the world in the year or so after the passage of the 1975 Consenting Adult Sex Bill:

    “I’ve just flown in from California, where they’ve made homosexuality legal. I thought I’d get out before they make it compulsory.”

    For Hope, this was an oddly profound gag, discerning even at the dawn of the Age of Tolerance that there was something inherently coercive about the enterprise. Soon it would be insufficient merely to be “tolerant” — warily accepting, blithely indifferent, mildly amused, tepidly supportive, according to taste. The forces of “tolerance” would become intolerant of anything less than full-blown celebratory approval.

    Second joke from the archives: Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra kept this one in the act for a quarter-century. On stage, Dino used to have a bit of business where he’d refill his tumbler and ask Frank, “How do you make a fruit cordial?” And Sinatra would respond, “I dunno.   • Cracker Barrel is taking the Duck Dynasty / Duck Commander merchandise off their shelves. Saw an article after being told by an employee there this morning. That will be last visit to CB for a while. Their PR piece: we don't want to offend anyone. Guess what, I'm offended by their stupidity and slavish devotion to political correctness.

    EDIT: I don't even watch Duck Dynasty.

  • Watch the show then change the channel quickly, and watch out for the A&E tag on the merchandise. Their next reality show will Neal & Bob together forever.

    • I've eaten at cracker barrel a total of 1 time. the servings were teenincy and the price was ridiculous.

        • I ate there once, wasn't impressed. Like was said earlier, small portions, large prices, and not very good food.

        • That's ok, I was in Verizon to activate a new phone for my daughter, and they just got in a new shipment of Duck Dynasty phone accessories. The sales rep said they were flying off the shelves, the pink camo phone case was a popular item, but this is North Carolina where the motto among young female type persons is "Silly boys, trucks are for girls", just sayin'.

  • Money talks and everything else walks in the world of TV. A&E will look like fools if they manage to lose Duck Dynasty. Only the left and all of their radical groups are permitted to have a 1st Amendment right. Every one else is suppose to just STFU in their world.

    Well we are not going to STFU in matter of fact we are going to get back in your faces and tell you we have every right to speak our minds. Get use to it. We will be here all the time standing up for what we believe in. As Sun Tzu as stated, fight your enemy on the lowest common terms. Therefore getting in the faces of the left is perfectly acceptable. Let them confirm to the majority's will not the other way around.

    For the record, I don't watch Duck Dynasty. I did look in for a while once & didn't get it.

    • All of television has become sensational tabloid trash. There's nothing there to "get". I ran into a distant neighbor of mine in the grocery store last week and she claimed CBS has agreed to finance 2 series about her life. I didn't know she had one. I listened to her babble on until I couldn't stand it anymore, but I called her the next day and confirmed a lot of the details. It may happen - it may not, but if you can sell Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty I guess you can sell anything - or anyone.

      • I agree that TV has become trash- it's a major reason I do not subscribe to cable and my lone set sits peacefully in storage entertaining my excess belongings with the best programming a TV can deliver: a blank screen. The whole degradation of content only mirrors our cultural collapse... perhaps even enables it. I see it as a national addiction.

        • Gotta say, cable is where the best espisodic TV is. Whether it's the Vikings on History, The Walking Dead on AMC, or The Americans on FX. Maybe not enough for you to resubscribe but there are some great shows that over-the-air networks can never touch.

          I don't ever ever watch reality TV including Duck Dynasty and I do agree that TV largely sucks but there is just enough good programming for me to keep the subscription.

          • Yeah, you can. My problem is the other members of my family who still want me to pay for the whole thing. Not a battle worth fighting.

          • There were things I liked but all too often the programming was sponsored by advertisers who promoted the toxic, fairy tale political narrative that had me resisting the urge to throw my television set through the window. For example, ecological responsibility is one thing but suggesting that a product or service deserves credit for being a responsible global citizen by reducing its carbon footprint or otherwise is combatting climate change (AGW) which merits its consideration is promoting a fallacy and it is the embedded narrative that reinforces the political brainwash which I want absolutely no part of.

          • I don’t ever watch reality TV either. I consider "reality TV" an oxy-moron, but off camera things get very real and very interesting.

          • UGH! I'm SOOOOO over the "responsible global citizen" crap! I want to go dig up my old 1986 F-150 and drive it around the world! It got crap mileage and spewed smoke like Obama spews lies.

          • Can I ride shot gun? We can then have two politically incorrect activities going on at the same time. Double the pressure on the left and watch them lose what few brain cells they have left.

          • I would love to have a shotgun rider, but then it could be considered carpooling, and we would be saving fuel!
            It would be better if we got a bunch of old trucks in severe disrepair, and did a cross country convoy!

          • Trash is the new staple on TV, and they market it to women!
            Kardashians and just about anything else on E!, Most of Bravo, much of A&E, etc is all crap. Even Game Show Network is starting to pander to the least common denominator with shows like their upcoming offering Mind of a Man. I like GSN because of all the old game shows, but they are coming up with some new crap. Same with TV Land, love the old shows, but some of the new stuff is wretch-worthy. About the only channels I can watch with any regularity are the Military Channel, FNC, History, Science Channel, AMC, TCM, and 8Prime (another oldies channel but without the new trash offerings).
