Earth Hour is a colossal waste of time—and energy. Hey, did you guys turn off your lights between 8:30 and 9:30 on March 23 to observe “Earth Hour”? No? Good, because “Earth Hour teaches all the wrong lessons, and it actually increases CO2 emissions. Its vain symbolism reveals exactly what is wrong with today’s feel-good environmentalism.” So, thanks for not participating!

The perfect example of blunder thinking. The had one thing they were determined to do and never looked at the overall effects and collateral damage.
I wasn't home last night. I was in San Francisco. Damn, I hate that town. But they had a cool bellydancing show we wanted to see. Granted, they DID have the stage lights pretty low.

Low stage lighting is only to help hide the advanced age of the performers.
Not in this little club. It was because they only had room on the ceiling for a few lights. Seating was actually six across. Luckily, I managed front row seats.
All the whiners over at the article basically admitted it was nothing but a publicity stunt. I suggested we should go back to using whale oil for lighting.
I remember a few years ago the mayor of Atlanta wanted to turn her city into a "beacon" of good environmental stewardship by participating this. Yes she completely failed to realize that you create beacons by turning lights on, not by turning them off.
I have a folder on my mac called "Links to Truth." This post is going there! Thank you for these very good talking points.
Not only did I not turn off my lights, I turned my A/C on. We had both big screens on, dishwasher, Clothes dryer and one of the kids was ironing. In truth, I had no idea about earth hour. Had I known, I might have thrown a load of clean towels into the washing machine to represent!
Though it does look like NK got with the program. ;)
Well, it was easy for NK to get with the program. Their freaky-weird, dear leader keeps most of them in poverty anyway, so they only had about two light switches to turn off in order to get this kind of satellite shot.
Hehe, I saw this on Yahoo - http://news.yahoo.com/experts-nkorea-training-teams-cyber-warriors-050713868.html . Wearing parkas indoors!
Living the dream!
Since their primary source of light is daytime and candles, they are living the dream, the Obama nightmare/dream.
Earth hour is retarded.
Here's an idea: take all that money going to Green Energy subsidies and split it into three equal chunks. Put the first chunk towards getting rid of the debt. The second chunk goes to nuclear power. And the third gets sent to fusion research.
After all, what's a better way to give the finger to the terrorists than to tell them, "Yeah, we don't need your oil any more. We just invented a way to turn the hydrogen in water into power. Have fun playing with your lubricant in the sand!"
I turned on every light in my house, cranked my hot tub up to 104 and giggled my a** off.
Here's another good idea: Let's pressure Washington to remove the restrictions that were placed on the Thorium fuel cycle back during the Carter administration so that we can develop the Molten Salt Reactor. Dr. Alvin Weinberg was working on this method of using Thorium as a nuclear fuel instead of Uranium at Oak Ridge back in the '60s. This has been restricted by the Atomic Energy Act, and licensing of this type of reactor would be nearly impossible under the current regulatory structure.
Here's the scoop: Thorium is 10 times as plentiful as Uranium, doesn't need to be enriched and doesn't make Plutonium as a by-product. In a Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactor (LFTR) the thorium is mixed in with the coolant, which is a molten Lithium / Beryllium salt at about 800 Degrees C. At this temperature, the heat produced by fission can be used to operate a gas turbine (No steam!) with the waste heat useful for desalinization, tar sand petroleum production, whatever. It doesn't use water, so it can be situated in locations without a water supply (like a desert). It operates at atmospheric pressure, so there are no extreme design pressure vessels to worry about. The coolant is solid at room temperature, so a freeze plug keeps the coolant in the system. If the reactor loses power(ala Fukushima), the freeze plug melts and the contents of the reactor are safely drained into a holding tank where the nuclear reaction is immediately halted. No meltdown!
A lot of the guys behind this are greenies, but so what? With this kind of resource at our command we could be truly energy independant, and give OPEC the bird.
Here is a video by a 7th grader on the topic. Study up, there'll be a quiz later....

Wow, that's cool!
Not to change the subject, but the still shot from the video reminded me of a t-shirt I saw on line the other day. It was the symbols for Barium, Cobalt, and Nitrogen.
BA CO N
;-)
Preaching like that needs an altar call and the green Reds and red Greens need a "come-to-Jesus" encounter on this issue.
In part, they're forcing us to remain in the hands of our enemies.
What a completely stupid idea.
