EPA Wants to add 230,000 MORE Bureaucrats. In early September Obama announced he was putting on hold the EPA Ozone regulation because it was too expensive and now we get this, filed on 9/16/2011, that will costs $21 billion. Soon we’ll have more EPA employees running around than we have police.

Why is anyone surprised at any of this? This was all predicted prior to bo's election. Most americans don't know or worse yet, care. bo and his cabal know this and therefore don't give a damn what you or I think. He only cares what you and I say. He will stop that soon.
Last year at UCSB there were more environmental engineers graduated than mechanical, electrical, chemical, and nuclear engineers combined. The left's plan is to regulate ourselves out of economic morass. Yeah, that;s the ticket.
Abolish. The. EPA.
Federal and local governments have become huge employers, hiring 100's of thousands of people who are largely unproductive. Government doesn't make or produce a product, government doesn't innovate, doesn't experiment, doesn't market, doesn't sell, doesn't allocate resources, doesn't adjust inventories, doesn't do anything but regulate, and even that activity is done inefficiently and wastefully. Whole departments of government should be abolished. Education and Energy would be a good start.
Gov't experiment for sure. It's just that their experimentation has no productive goal.
Can't we just give them welfare? It would be a lot cheaper.
But seriously, nothing good can come out of this. Here in NJ, the NJDEP is close to, if not THE largest dept in state gov't. Basically, their modus operandi for "preserving the environment" is #1. stop ALL development. #2. see #1. They have been pursuing that goal for just over 30 years now, and through incrementalism, they are close to succeeding.
The main problem with gov't meddling in the affairs of the country, at any and every level, is that by their very nature they end up obsessed with procedure. It becomes the single most important thing. Success is measured by the number of fines issued (that is how the NJDEP gets most (all?) of their budget), and the fines are almost never issued for anything that causes actual environmental damage. Over 90% of the fines are procedural violations – Oh you filed the application to flush your first floor toilet, but actually flushed the 2nd floor one - $12,500 fine for you, buster. Or “you planted a garden in your own yard, but it is within the buffer zone of a wetland, which consists of a pond you dug out on your own property less than a year earlier, but we don’t care, because wetlands is wetlands is wetlands and you are not allowed to disturb a buffer area … (the 2nd is an actual case, last I heard the owners were up to a quarter mil in legal fees).
Then, when everyone is spending hundreds of man-hours filling out forms, or trying to understand what forms to fill out, and how, they say “look, we are succeeding in saving the environment.” Which usually consists of “saving” a 5000 sf hole in the ground which they call “wetlands” and slapping a 300’ buffer around it. Of course, said hole is in the middle of high density suburbia and has absolutely no ecological value whatsoever, unless you consider mosquitoes, rats, old tires and shopping carts to be essential parts of nature.
But of course, if you are the “right people”, there is no problem bulldozing hundreds of acres of wetland to build a new football stadium.
In the southwest we have a bird called the Mexican Spotted Owl. Hundreds of thousands of acres of forest lands were set aside as habitat for the owl even though only a few are seen each year. No clearing the dead and down brush and trees, must not disturb the birds.
What happened this year? Over 200,000 acres of forest land, in the so-called protected areas, burned. Nothing left, no trees for the owl or any other bird to nest in. No feed for the deer, elk and other critters that used to live there. Bears are hungry and heading to the towns in the areas to find something to eat. Between the idiocy of the EPA and the U.S. Forest Service hundreds of thousands of acres of "habitat" was lost in massive wildfires because people could not go in and clear out the dead brush and downed trees. It's time for both to go away, fire everyone and let the states take care of their own forest and EPA concerns.
That is what I cant figure out, don't most states have there own EPA?
I still don't see how it is constitutional to have appointed bureaucrats (at the state or federal level) making laws. I know they are not called laws they are regulations or rules. If you break them you can go to jail, sounds like a law to me. At least if they were elected we might have some say in who was screwing us over and how they were doing it.

This job destroying beast MUST be controlled. 230,000 federal bureaucrats is tax payer funded growth for what is destroying 10s of millions of U.S. jobs.
