Many are missing the point here. Something does not make sense.
1. Make laws controlling absolutely everything.
2. Make laws restricting things people want to do (e.g., smoke cigarettes)
3. Send a lot of goons out to enforce the laws. Give them lots of guns, armor, armored vehicles, battering rams, tear gas grenades, etc.
4. Tell said goons that they are fighting a war.
5. Be surprised when someone is killed because he sold some bootleg cigarettes IN THE PAST.
Which of the above does not belong?
The sad irony is that those who are most offended by this death are helping elect the people who made the law at the root of this tragic death, the law that made cigarettes cost 8, 9, or 10 dollars a pack in NYC, incentivising the underground sale of cigs, and most laws like that.
This is Big Government and almost half of us say they want more of it.
And, not enough of the more than half of us that don't want it, didn't bother to vote.
Too bad we can't restrict voting to people who actually pay taxes....The democrats would have about 11 people left to vote nationwide.
Many of them are zero liability voters, who pay no taxes.
