Everyone’s moving away. “Detroit is such a mess people are simply fleeing Michigan.” Are people leaving the less fiscally sound states for better situated ones or are blue-state residents simply not reproducing? Maybe both?

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • The funniest part is those liberals believes millions immigrants are going to accept something like a 50% tax rate to pay for their retirements, for which the great majority of them never bothered to save despite the issue being raised already in the 1990s.

    Obama isn´t going to increase the pay of the baby boomers in relation to the official inflation rate (real one is 8-10% and likely to grow), so social security is going to be a pauper´s wage in just a few years, even without stock market crash, the great majority of the retired are going to be poorer than bums by 2020.

  • We here in Texas welcome the Californians that come here - as long as they are not the stupid, unpatriotic bastards that vote Democrat.

    • Except a large number of Californians who come here are exactly that and immediately try to change us to be the smae shithole they left. The rest are Hispanics who flow back and forth from Texas to Califonia like the tides. But they get better benes in California.

      • The productive are leaving The Golden State, & are being replaced by people who often don't speak English & then sapp our welfare programs.

    • When a few more of the events that I make my living at get cancelled, and I pack up to leave California, it will be for Texas. And trust me, I will bring NO liberal tendencies.

        • That is one of the things I need to do my research on, Rose. There's a number of big faires, a few small one. So I'd have to make sure I'm accepted at the big ones before going.

          I made the mistake of just showing up in Florida a few years ago, without doing my research, and the excessive level of regulation basically tossed me out of the state. Not that I couldn't operate my booth safely, that's never been a problem. But the cash outlay to get the permits was completely out of the question.

          Here in CA, I prove I have millions in liability insurance, and I'm in. Nothing else is required.

          • Before I left FL, vowing never to return, (it was hot and humid in January), I had a conversation with a local lady. I made the joke that soon, you would have to have a permit to get a permit.

            She said, "Don't laugh. I work for a local construction company. A big part of my job is pulling permits. I have to take classes, and be certified. Yes. I have a permit to get permits."

          • That is a little exaggerated on her part.
            She took a class to make sure she had the procedure down, there are quite a few forms needed to get a permit approved. I have pulled permits, it is time consuming to say the least, but the bureaucracy couldn't justify itself without the excessive mounds of paperwork.
            2 permits for the work on my house, electrical and framing, cost $422.

          • As the government puke from the carnival rides ministry explained it to me, since I had intended to operate my horses without a permit, they were red-tagged, and the tags would cost $500 to be removed. Each. The fact that I had never heard of the permit meant nothing.

            Then I would have to have my horses inspected by a licensed mechanical engineer, at a cost of about a thousand dollars each. There were places on the form for the engineer to fill out dealing with "supporting cables and turnbuckles," "pneumatic systems," "hydraulic systems," "electrical systems,"...............

            I explained that these were rocking horses, and had none of that. He said that the engineer would note that on the form.

            Once that was done, and the $300 yearly fee paid for each horse's permit, then he himself would have to come out to each and every event, to make sure that I assembled them correctly. $150 each. I explained that they do not come apart, so there is no assembly. He said that he would note that on the form.

            All this for a 3 month run in FL, then off to Georgia, where the one man in the state that gives rides a thumb up or down, explains his actions to nobody, there's no appeal process, just happens to supply the east coast with most of their renfaire rides, and has no intention of allowing me to move in on his action. Ok, so no Georgia.

            Pennsylvania was next, and you have to have your rides inspected by a licensed ride inspector there. I checked into the process for finding one of those. "Oh, just go down to the county offices, give them fifty dollars, and they'll give you your ride inspector's license."

            "What kind of degree, certificates, engineering experience, is required?"

            "None of that, just fifty dollars."

            Ok. So it really IS about public safety, right?

            The east coast can kiss my ass.

  • Unsurprisingly. the biggest losers (Rhode Island, Michigan, New York, Massachusetts and Illinois) are all economic basket cases and all controlled by Democrats. I'm surprised California isn't among the biggest losers but I suspect the children of illgal aliens might be keeping the Golden State's stats somewhat higher.

    • Actually, the losers are the states that these people flee to. They leave cities & states that have been ruined by Demacrat liberal/progressive policies, then they get to their new state & continue to vote for the same sh!tty types of pols that ruined the place they just left.

  • Take a ride through Buffalo or Toledo they are almost as bad as Detroit.Balitmore is a great water front surrounded by a slum.Camden Newark Richmond Atlanta the list is endless. Why are all these cities turning into slums? Does anyone know why? LOLOLOL.

  • My husband and I grew up in the San Diego area due to our parents being military. We lived there because it was all we knew. We started traveling to utah for capming trips and would meet people doing things like riding dirt bikes,shootin,having campfires. lol we thought for sure it was against the law because everything but illegals is illegal in cali. Made the move 4 years ago with our buissness,and bank accounts to Utah. Wow its been wonderful! If you like the rules in Cali please stay there.
