I have a simple solution for the impending increase in food prices due to the failed corn crop.
STOP PRODUCING ETHANOL!!!
All the corn you save from that will be used for something useful, FOOD!!!
You will also increase gas mileage, reduce engine wear, and make me one happy person.

I don't know, I'm not a farmer, but the corn around me here in Michigan looks mighty damn healthy. I think the journalists sometimes forget how big the country is. Bad weather in Iowa doesn't mean bad weather everywhere they grow corn.
On a negative note, the orchards were blasted and ruined by early warm weather followed by freezes. Shit happens, and weather is frequently shitty. It's the first law of farming. I've got a fruit farmer in my golf league who says the year is a total loss for him, but he doesn't seem to be thinking about suicide. Good farmers plan for bad years. They'd be stupid not to.
I thought the caption of the picture was supposed to be: "Man finds Obama's penis in Michelle's garden." I then remembered that he doesn't have one, so maybe it should read "Man finds Michelle's penis in her garden."

Well..I'm old, so that means I know people who are REALLY old.
My "old farts" tell me they remember heat and drought as bad or worse and that was long before Gore the failed internet inventor concocted "Global warming"
I remember the summer of 83 ( 1983 ) was just as hot or hotter than this.
Living on lake Michigan I've seen water levels lower than present and record high levels when homes were washed into the sea ( the great lakes are inland seas-john).
Iv'e also seen sand bars become islands.
I remember last year was hotter than this. We came within one day of tying the record for the greatest number of 100 degree days in one month, with 30 days above 100. The old record was 31 days in July of 1980. So far we have only been above 100 once this month. We ended the year with 72 100 degree days, breaking 1980's record of 69. Waco had it worse, they had 90 100 degree days last year.
I can also remember 1980, I thought the whole world was going to burn up.
I don't know what part of the country you're in, but I'm in North Texas, and I always wonder what the point is of counting the number of days in a row that are over 100 degrees. To me, 101 doesn't feel that different from 98. Of course, I think anything over 80 is too damn hot. :)
Back then, it was just called WEATHER.
There was a huge heat wave/drought in the early 30's (Re: The Grapes of Wrath). A lot of the daily records for highest temperature still stands for that period.
Here in WV, we just had a brutal heat wave/drought. Now we're in a period of COOLER than average temperatures and have even received some pretty good rain. Know what you call that? Summer.
Grew up on a farm in the Midwest, your right, we used to call it weather. Some years it was wet, some years it was dry, some years it was just right, and the evil corporations had nothing to do with it, and Al Gore the Weather Whore wasn't even outta college yet. Farming is just like fishing, no guarantees, unless you get money for not catching fish from the federal goobermint.
So much for the Ethanol business, expect the EPA to fine everybody, which will drive up the price.
