Feds predict the future of the Auto Industry, foresee Chrysler freefall, GM stagnation. “According to data buried in the EPA/DOT proposed rule for 2017-2025 fuel economy standards, Fiat-Chrysler is predicted to be the sick man of the auto industry by 2025, losing over half of its 2008 sales volume, while GM is expected to improve by only 3%…” That’s 3% over the 17 year period not 3% annually. And remember, gubbermint predictions are usually over-optimistic.

A couple of things...
Fiat/Chrystler will never work in America. Fiat has never caught on & never will. No amount of ads with J-Lo driving around in a cute car she would never be caught dead in that does'nt cost as much as any number of fashion items in her closet.
GM will never make money & will never actually pay off their debt. Not under it's current construct, anyway. GM & the UAW will be fine until someone really digs into their books, & when(not if)someone does that, you will be shocked how crooked the deal is. Even by the Chicago/Obama/union coruption standards we have gotten used to, the GM bailout will shock even those people. Elect some folks that will do that, & you will here the left scream bloody murder.
Last, & certainly not least, the types of cars being pushed by these progressive leftist asshats will never work outside of the Manhattan/DC corridor. Anyone, not even the most dedicated progressive living in in the heartland would drive an electric car. People make 2, 3 ,& 4 hour drives all the time in middle America. Drive around Minnesota, North & South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, & wherever else people live outside of Manhattan. Go to California, it's all about the car. The biggest supporters of what the left wants the auto industry to be are people who live in places where they take the subway or mass transit train around whatever progressive island they live in. They don't need cars, so they don't think we need cars. If only they had a high speed rail line from Fargo to Grand Forks, those folks could ditch their cars. It will NEVER happen. Progressives can wish in 1 hand, then sh!t in the other, & they will always get the same result. But they will always keep trying, & that's what makes them most dangerous.
Next week, my lady and I are taking a trip from San Diego to Las Vegas. We'll drive north on the 15 for a couple of hours, then head east on what's left of Route 66 to make a fun drive out of it. A lot of the trip will be on National Trails Highway, through town like Ludlow, Bagdad, Amboy, and Exeter, to Needles, then north to Searchlight. Plenty of stops for pictures in deserted town, old graveyards, railroad crossings with BNSF freight trains roaring by, even an old gold mine to take a walk through. Check out that route on Google Earth. I don't think we'd make it in an electric car of any kind.
Try driving in Texas. You can drive around for a week without ever leaving the state! Actually, probably longer. And in some placess there isn't even access to a gas station or cell phone tower, much less a plug for an electric car!
I am starting to see a few electric cars now at the little station I work at. You should see the look on their faces when I tell them the nearest gas station is 50 miles away, the next nearest is 70 miles away, and no, they cannot charge their little shoebox because we have no outside electrical sockets.
Big brain fart here! I'm going to install electrical sockets outside then charge anyone who wants to juice up their Volt instead of buying gas $5.00 per minute! If they ask why so much I'll tell them it is to cover the cost of insurance in case their bomb starts burning on my property.
