Feminist at Salon says Mary was raped. The mean-spirited, just-in-time-for-Christmas, leftwing, irrational, alternate-universe explanation for the Virgin Birth: God raped Mary, thus conceiving Jesus.

  • The leftist buffoon has missed the primary point of immaculate conception. There was never any fornication involved, so how was there a rape?

    • Not to sidetrack or start a hubbub, but the Virgin Birth and the Immaculate Conception are two quite different events.
      Per the Church of Rome, original sin is something like a spiritual birth defect common to all mankind: except for the Virgin Mary, who was preserved from it in order that Jesus' own flesh would be sinless. This idea of original sin was taken from St Augustine of Hippo, and was never adopted by the Eastern Orthodox Church. Orthodoxy teaches more that there was ONE "Original Sin" in Eden, and although we live with its effects, we are not guilty of it. Orthodoxy thus sees the idea of the Immaculate Conception as unnecessary. (Most of Protestantism inherited the Roman idea of Original Sin but never made the somewhat implicit need to Immaculately Conceive Mary -- tho' to be fair, it is a relatively recent doctrine, declared in the late 19th century.)

      • Its my understanding her status as Immaculately conceived was the brainchild of a Pope in the 19th century. There is also a split between virgin for Jesus, and ever virgin.

  • Ah.... no that is not what happened.

    First, of all she was obviously pre-destined and G-d knew that she would accept this duty. She wasn't randomly asked nor randomly created for this task and neither was Joseph.

    Second ,the Lord YWH sent an Angel to tell her that she is HIGHLY favored and essentially ask her consent by telling her all that she needed to know, he even answered her questions. He even told her to verify his words by visiting her cousin. He did not mistreat her, coaxed her angrily nor talked down to her. She SAID that she was okay with it and more than okay and accepted this duty.

    Third, people were expecting the Messiah and it is a known thing that many women were expecting to give birth to Him, so many women were hoping to be favored in this way. The issue is that unlike the past where great men were born from women who have had sex already, this time THE Messiah came through a virgin, so if she was a virgin when she got pregnant and gave birth she wasn't raped. GIVING BIRTH DOES NOT MEAN RAPE, GIVING BIRTH MEANS GIVING BIRTH.

    Fourth, this whacko ass feminist bitch needs to calm the hell down and don't talk business she knows NOTHING about because she looks crazy and freaky. Bitch shut the f up okay?

      If indeed "No!" means "No!" then I would think "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word" certainly means "Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word."

      That certainly sounds like consent to me!

      And if "be it unto me according to thy word" is NOT consent, then what hope does ANY man have that he's getting consent?!!!

      • I think that the problem for her is that Mary was too consenting of her body to an "invisible" Deity that is a HE. I think that is really the problem for her. I wonder if she would be as upset if a female deity asked a guy to conceive a child with her or TELL him to do so regardless of him actually consenting or not.

        The problem here is that the deities she is talking about and the Lord G-d are males. She is far more angry with the Lord YWH for some reason, and if she is an atheist that doesn't make sense right?

        Basically Mary was devoted and willing to accept this duty (as the Lord obviously knew beforehand that she would be), her being so devoted and willing and obedient to a male Deity is the problem.

        The thing is that she, the writer of this nonsense, is saying that if this task fell upon her she would have said no if she had the chance, but it would have never fell upon her because she is rancid and hateful. However the truth of the matter is this, bitch does not know what rape is.

        When has a rapist warned his victim that he is going to rape her and give her enough time for her to escape or even time for her to think about it and then make a decision about the rape announcement? When has a rapist allowed for the victim-to-be to ask him questions about the event? When has a rapist asked her to go visit a friend and tell her about the rape? I mean seriously... how is this story in any way shape or form has ANYTHING to do with rape?

        Is the bitch implying that had Mary said no, G-d would have STILL impregnate her? Against her will? Because there is no basis for that implication, because why would G-d bother to ask a woman that would have said no?* And why would He bother telling her beforehand if He was still going to impregnate her? She (the writer) hates the Deity that is what this is about and she hates that He is male (so to speak).

        Like someone said since there was no physical activity (unlike the mythological gods she wrote about in her article), there was no rape. Her giving birth as a virgin means she gave birth as a virgin and if she was a virgin, she wasn't raped.

        * Reminds of the story that Prince Rainier wanted to make sure that Grace Kelly was going to say yes before asking her hand in marriage. As royalty it would have been embarrassing to ask her if she was not going to say yes. Her saying no especially since she was such a known and famous person at the time, would have embarrass him and in addition his principality and position among his peers. It was a very interesting little dance and once he was sure of her affections for him, he asked her.

        If one sees G-d as an Emperor and King it would make sense that in order to preserve His Good Name and Reputation not just for Himself, but also for His Kingdom and everyone in it, He would WISELY choose an appropriate woman to carry His Child and the woman would accept this duty and privilege even if she had to think about it or ask questions or had a bit of doubt and was asked to please verify by going to someone older who could encourage her. C'est normal! How embarrassing it would be for the Lord G-d to ask some random lady and she refuses! That would never be! If human Princes and Kings and even Queens (like Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II) wanted to safeguard themselves in this way and be sure that the woman (or man) they asked in matrimony would say yes before even asking, how much more would the Lord G-d want this for Himself? Duh!
