Feminists attack Miss USA for advocating self defense

• It's never the victims fault. However, there are ALWAYS steps to take to help ensure your own safety. Not full-proof, but they can't hurt. I always tell my Sailors to be aware of their surroundings. Never leave your drink unattended. Always have your keys in hand while walking by yourself (for use as a weapon). Always park near a light. Don't talk on your cellphone while walking by yourself. Don't leave your group or let one of your group go off with someone they just met. Look out for others that are putting themselves in dangerous situations by doing any of the above.

• I think I understand better: Some of these women misunderstood what she meant. They thought that she was putting the burden on women not on the rapists. Also, it is possible, that some of these women were victims of rape, and they misheard and misunderstood her meaning and believe that what she said/meant is that women cannot rely on others to save them or stand up for them, and that it if they got raped it was their fault for not defending themselves. Others complaints are just incomprehensible and not worthy of discussion, but the other two are interesting.

  She didn't mean that women (or other victims of rape) hold all the burden here. OF COURSE the burden is and always shall be on the men (and women) who rape. To mistake what she was saying as an indictment or blame on women was incredibly stupid. Someone in a show last night said that she should have perhaps PREFACED the statement by adding at first, that she is sorry for those who have been victims of rape to PERHAPS avoid criticism, but OBVIOUSLY she would be sorry and it stands without saying. Rape is not to indict the victim and it is always about the criminality and culpability of the perpretator but it is appropriate to encourage women to practice and be self confident for self defense. It is common sense.

  I believe that this is just the symptom of the eternally offended and a quick reaction to a touchy subject. I think that question was not even necessary for such a contest...

  Now for those who have been victimized to feel that she is blaming them for not being able to avoid the rape, obviously this is horrible if they truly feel this way but I am sure that if they thought things rationally they would know that she was not in any way blaming them for what happened to them. Rape victims tend to feel guilty and ashamed for what happened and wonder if there was something they should have done to avoid what happened. The lady did not mean that it was their fault, she just meant that women should be empowered to do what they can to avoid being victimized, it is not about those that have been or putting blame on them...

  • Many women who have been through it are so overcome with emotion, that rational thought isn't an option. The automatically twist whatever someone says into an indictment of their actions.

    Many who haven't been through it are just liberal idiots, and professional victims.

    Any thinking person knows she meant nothing bad towards rape victims, and would love to see an end to it. But she knows the liberal ways of ending it won't work.

• I don't get it... please explain this to me? Why being able to defend oneself in hand to hand combat or gun to gun combat a BAD thing? I don't understand it doesn't make any sense?

• I was alternating between laughing and crying over the coverage on twitchy. I mean, what's more realistic? Teaching women to defend themselves and others or teaching criminals not to be criminals??? The whole "rape-culture win" BS! Bottom line: if women can defend themselves then they can't be used as victims!

Coming up with some lame and truly stupid thing that not even then actually believe just to say something against her because she is who she is and looks the way that she does. There has got to be something else there... like she is into values that feminists are against (other than self defense) which any true feminist really shouldn't be against.
