Florida passes plan for racially-based academic goals. “The Florida State Board of Ed’s plan that says that by 2018, it wants 90 percent of Asian students, 88 percent of white students, 81 percent of Hispanics and 74 percent of black students to be reading at or above grade level.” Well, Jamal Chen-Martinez-Kowalski will be glad to hear that… we think.

So, once the figures are attained, (assuming that were to happen), then the teachers can kick back, knowing that they've reached expectations, and don't worry about the other percentage. The ones that can't read. I guess this is a good idea for libs, since kids that can't read will most likely become Democrats.
Thanks to state of Florida for establishing a racial pecking order: 1) Asians, 2) Whites, 2) Hispanics (even though Hispanic is not a race) and 4) Blacks. The good old days of segragation are back, with Blacks relegated to the back of the education bus. Who needs Bull Connor when you got the Florida State Board of Ed.
Just another reason for home schooling. The more the state and federal jackasses meddle in public education the more dysfunctional it becomes.

This is one of the most asinine things I've ever heard. Then they bitch because these people with relaxed academic standards can't even make change selling pizza. So do the taxpayers have to pay for them sealing their records as well?
So, white kids are smarter than black kids? Is THAT what they are saying? Asian kids are smarter than everyone - OK. I don't expect any outrage about that. But this school board is saying that whites are better than blacks. THAT should piss everyone off. It pisses ME off. Haven't we come far enough in the last 50 years that that sort of racism isn't OK?
And what about those 26 out of every hundred black kids who can't read? Are they just a number? Or are they real children who will have no chance for a good future because the schools failed them? But it's OK - they are the "correct amount" of failed kids. GRRRrrrr this makes me so mad!
Agreed Karmaa. There is no reason for anyone to except the "they are better than you" that this whole damn plan states. It is the unsaid that leaves the biggest mark and smell.
Every parent in this district should be standing in the office demanding that this whole jacked up plan is scarped and the person or persons who came up with, FIRED for being ignorant and bigoted.
It certainly is a shame and racist as hell.
Am I the only one wondering why they expect a higher percentage of Asian students to be at that level than non-Asians? I'll give them the Hispanics because in many cases English is a second language. The rest of us? No excuses. In fact the black community should be embarrassed that they expect less of them than the Hispanics.

I come from a family of white supremacists. They claim "We don't hate black people! They're just incapable of competing against white people. It isn't fair to them to ask them to do so." Seriously. That's why they claim the races can't mix: black inferiority makes blacks into angry criminals when they inevitably fail while trying to live amongst their betters.

This was done to inflate the schools' grades (as in NCLB regulations). No benefit to the kids no benefit to society only a benefit to teachers and administrators who are evaluated on their test results and the flow of federal dollars to schools that are A rated.
