Well, my solution has been mentioned a couple of times, donate for yourself.
I'm having surgery in 3 weeks. Fortunately, the blood supply won't become tainted fast enough to affect me. Blood can only be stored for 6 weeks, which is less time than you must wait before donating again, so you can only save one pint of blood for yourself, then you need to have family members with the same blood type donate for you.
Can't it be frozen?
Yes, but blood is full of salts and other solutes, it's freezing temperature is -.52 deg. C or approx. 31.1 deg. F
Unless you specially treated it for freezing (by adding DMSO), ice crystals would form inside the cells and tear them apart from the inside.

Simple solution to this dip shit screw ball idea. If you know you are going to have surgery and may need blood. Store up supplies before you go in. There is no F ing way that I want anyone's blood that may have HIV. What is next. The junkies are permitted to donate so they can feed their habits?
That's already done routinely for Jehovah's Witnesses, who otherwise refuse transfusion. As FS says, though, what if you're in an accident?
All of my blood transfusions have been the result of accidents. No time to prepare.
That's fine if blood is needed for known upcoming surgery. LOTS of blood is used in emergency situations. I know. I've had LOTS of transfusion, but none of them since AIDS was invented.

This is just crazy. The whole point of excluding certain donors is to eliminate obvious disease vectors. This is an entirely rational process, having nothing to do with unscientific bias or emotional hatred. To allow gay blood donations when we KNOW that HIV is primarily a gay disease and we KNOW that much of the gay community obstinately engages in dangerous sexual practices, is crazy. Political correctness has turned us into a dysfunctional society. We cannot even maintain a safe blood supply because we feel we have to appease a tiny, vocal, obnoxious political segment, a segment that will never manage to be appeased because they rely upon their sense of victimhood to explain their own unhappiness. So now that they can marry, be Scoutmasters, and donate blood, will they be happy? Of course not. They will still be the same, miserable, angry-at-God human beings they were before... and meanwhile our children are no longer safe in the Boy Scouts and the blood we receive in the hospital will be less safe. This is what the progressives call progress.
It's not just the gays, JP...it progressives in general. They're never satisfied, because they haven't brought down the system yet.

HIV can remain dormant for YEARS. I am not the least bit comfortable with this, in the latest PC load of garbage that is being shoved up our arses. ( no pun intended )
