French and Germans explore idea of smaller euro zone. France and Germany want to kick Greece and the other weak sisters to the curb, but they want them to go away without going away mad. Thus, they mutter about creating a “two tier euro zone” with a central core and the rest left as a “confederation.” The second-tier nations are not fooled by the smokescreen and are not keen on the idea. But Merkel and Sarkozy sense they have to act quickly before the house of cards collapses completely.

Hmmmm, there's an idea! Can we make a 2 tier state system here? Maybe California, Michigan, New York, and other deeply in debt states can go to tier 2.
