• Gas prices in Ottawa today: $5.07 per U.S. liquid gallon.

  Montreal: $5.64 per U.S. liquid gallon.

  • How much of that is actual tax at the pump, Barb? Do you know?

    • There's really no easy way of getting an accurate figure. They post the "official" federal and provincial taxes on the pump, but that's a drop in the bucket. The other taxes are buried under layer upon layer of B.S.

      The real pisser is that we sell a good chunk of our oil to the U.S. and because of some inane agreements made a million years ago, we have to sell it to you for LESS than we sell it to ourselves.

      With Obama's thumb down on Keystone XL, we have finally opened up discussion about alternate markets. I'm not thrilled about selling to China, but one good piece of news is that we will finally begin shipping Alberta oil eastward to the Martime provinces who are currently forced to buy OPEC oil. The pipeline is already in - all we have to do is change the direction of the flow. So thank you for that, BO.

      • Yeah, I was only asking about the 'official" deferal and provencial taxes. I understand that there are tons more in regualtion requirements, and taxes hidden as you say, in the BS. They've been shipping Texas oil all over God's green earth since 1910. We went tothe middleeast and looked for oil, built all their drilling and refining capability and educated them on how to use us, then they kicked us out and hogged all the oil for themselves or to sell ad ridiculous prices.

    Yup, it's a protest against the companies policies forcing their retailers, to pay more for their fuel and having to pass the price increase to the customers.
    Actually, I think it should be an effective tactic to get the attention of the public. If it will do any good is doubtful though.

    • Yes I did. Regardless if it's real or protest prices you can bet Big O loves that high price and is wishing the whole country was paying that.

• There is no effing reason that gas should cost more then $2. None what so ever. It's all about gov't regulation & taxation that makes gas prices go through the roof.

• Time for another lecture from the empty chair on how green energy will save us.
