• I thought George was . Living in Italy. How the hell is he going to meet residency requirements?

  Obama arranged the release of Sgt Bergdhal, which is wonderful, but at what cost?

  1st. He released 5 detainees from Gitmo in exchange for Sgt Bergdhal.

  2nd. He BYPASSED CONGRESS, not giving then the REQUIRED 30 DAYS NOTICE of the swap, claiming Sgt Bergdhal was ill and in danger of losing his life.

  3rd. This swap was announced only four days after Obama announced a drawdown of U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

  4th. This was also only a few days after Obama made his ill received speech at West Point, saying how he is still working to close Gitmo. (Is he planning to empty it, by releasing all the prisoners first?)

  5th. With the announced drawdown of troops, and the release of these 5 high profile Taliban prisoners, what are the odds of these guys overthrowing the Afghan government?

  6th. These 5 are not only Taliban, but also Al-Qaeda! They are high ranking Taliban commanders, not just low risk suspects.

  7th. It sends a message that if you want your terrorist friends released, just kidnap Americans!

  8th. It also sends the message that, no matter what the US says, we will negotiate with terrorists!

  King Barky is doing his level best to make sure that everything we have accomplished in Afghanistan was for naught!

  • You do realize they will kidnap regardless of whever they get to negociate with the US governement or not.

  • 100% correct. Nice that the sergeant was released err, traded for. The cost was too high, IMO. There is no upside for the US as a result of this questionably legal action.

    • quagmire has sealed the fate of Afghanistan. These 5 are some of the most evil and will do all that they can to destabilize Afghanistan. All the US blood spilt was for nothing.

      If quagmire feels this will make him some type of foreign policy wonk, it only proves yet again that he is nothing more than a community organizer that has no damn clue about dealing with evil.

      This exchange is a dangerous precedent for the US. If a US citizen is traveling around the world, you are subject to being kidnapped, held for years to be treated worse than a dog.

      quagmire has negotiated with those that have no qualm about killing any of us. He has again shown just how weak this administration is.

      One of the released was the deputy chief of the Taliban who was directly involved in September 11th.

Possibly have traded five deadly terrorist for the most likelihood of a deserter while a US Marine is left sitting in a Mexican jail for accidentally crossing the Mexican border with 3 legally owned firearms. Hell he even attempted to turn around and was denied and taken into custody. If they can take our Marine into custody, why can we not take all their illegals into custody?

        The Afghan government is completely dependent on foreign support to work the little it does nowadays.
        Afghan police, despite all the expense put into training and education, is thoroughly compromised.
        The whole rotten structure will go down the moment it is no longer supported by foreign troops and money.

        Only way Afghanistan could have been transformed away from all that is an occupation policy dealing with Islam the way the 3rd Reich dealth with jews and communists in the eastern front.
        Close all the mosques and shake them with pig blood, excrement and urine. All jihadist and boy rapists bodies fed to dogs and the dog shit in turn being fed to pigs.
        Oath of Allegiance to the Afghan Federation would involve blaspheming mohammed and allah. Would-be Afghan politicians would have to feed pork to Afghan family members guilty of "honor" killings for example,
        The teaching of Islam would be forbidden, all qurans would be fed to wood chippers in public ceremonies, compulsory education would teaches Afghan children of the evils of Islam and so on.

        I realize that such a strategy would have been very unlikely. At least not without Al-Quaida launching a real Operation Dark Winter.

        • The article linked is as close to not missing the point as anything I've ever read. The problem I have with it is that Congress is given a pass and there's a glaring absence of commentary on the press and mass media being co-opted as a tool in this campaign. Obama couldn't do this alone- he's succeeding not just because Congress lacks backbone. His agenda moves forward because much of Congress is complicit- including those who purport to be with his opposition- occupying the role strictly in a theatrical sense for the purpose of fooling us into assuming that there's actual opposition when there is none.

          They should all be tried for treason.
