‘Gone with the Wind’ should go the way of the Confederate flag. Looks like this insanity is an infection gone wild. Meanwhile there’s tons of movies about Adolph Hitler and the Nazis we don’t hear anyone complaining about.

  • When I first came to Atlanta I was working for a mortgage company downtown. One day I said "Fiddle dee dee" and was IMMEDIATLEY put on notice by a black female co-worker how offensive that movie is to blacks. I was stunned. Curiously, as I've asked other blacks I've met and worked with if they found the movie offensive, resoundingly they have all said no. So I figure the people that are offended by it are the same folks that are pretty much offended by just about any and everything.

  • The Nazis were famous for killing Jews. Hardly anyone knows of them also sending Gypsies, Homosexuals, handicapped, and anyone else they deemed "undesirable" to the gas chambers. So, Nazis, Che, Mao, Pol Pot (sp?) are "cool" because they don't know the whole story. Their history was rewritten just like they are rewriting our history.

  • They may not realize this, but they are also trying to erase the struggle of Africans and others in this country. As well as the history of those that did the right thing. If there were no slaveholders then there were no slaves nor abolitionists. How does that profit anyone? Not everyone white owned slaves, there were slaveholders that were not white. Not everyone dark skinned were slaves. Some slaves (even if indentured), were white, native and asian.
    I believe that everyone's history should be represented.

    I think that once the war was won, the North could have made a deal to avoid the flying of any subverting flag, but this is the USA after all. This flag is more a symbol of disagreement about civil liberties than the civil war. Then it morphed. I don't like it, don't think it should be flown on a state level, but individuals can if they want to, for its original reason or for the changed reason. However erasing statues and books is now taking it too far.

    This country should have never had slavery and now it will pay for it throughout its history. This is folks why we have terrible diseases and why bad things happen to good ppl. The ppl of the past ruin shit for the future and we are now ruining shit for the future. Life happens. However what we can do is acknowledge the past, realize this isn't us NOW, and move forward as many of us as possible to a more positive future. Liberals don't want that for they strive for chaos.

    Also the issue here is that this revisionist movement from the Left is an attempt to cleanse their racist background and appeal to the stupid and ignorant masses. By fighting to keep the flag, the Right is marking itself as the protector of the racist movement and the Left wants that. Wake up! You are playing into their hands. This is what they want so they can tell the voters that the Right were always racists. Open your eyes.

    • I liked what Napolitano said today -- *people* can fly that flag if they want to -- it is an expression of their opinion, whether the rest of the world likes it or not. However, government has no right to fly it as an expression of opinion. Going by that same logic, government must not fly rainbow flags or lend its imprimatur to any other area of opinion.

      I could live with that.

    • What really irritates me about this is that "History Deniers" is that the ENGLISH started the slave trade. They brought slaves from Africa to everywhere. Yet nobody mentions the great English Empire was a slave holding organization. Wonder why that is? Maybe it is the selective memory disorder that Leftists have, when they forget all the bad stuff they have done and when it is brought up blame it on conservatives.

      So can we now silence the "History Deniers" like they want to do with Climate Deniers? Can we say they should be jailed? Charged with a crime? Why the hell not? They are doing the same thing to History that these liberal wackos are doing to the myth of climate change. They want to make History a "Myth" and have it fit their own beliefs, to whitewash it, silence those who want to know the truth.

      Those who fail to learn from History are doomed to repeat it, it can not be said enough. And right now we are becoming (take your choice) either a socialist country (Never works) or a perverted version of Nazi Germany. I for one refuse to stop fighting the stupidity that is our government.

      • It is my understanding that the Spanish initiated the slave trade as we know it in the Americas. The Portuguese and the English followed suit and then other European countries. Slavery per se is as old as time even if it took different forms. Currently we still have slavery mostly in the form of sexual slavery and the major slave traders and owners are Muslims and then Southern Asians and East Europeans.

        Instead of fighting symbols, books and statues, perhaps the eternally offended should help with the current slave trade and human trafficking issues happening around the world.

        Allowing Muslims to take over everything they touch.
        Having the government run healthcare.
        Having the country run by Socialists.

  • Gone With yhe Wind is semi.biographical, and showed the ugly side of slaveholders, as well as the story of the Whites in the South. Sorry, I'm not erasing history to satify some boob on the left vBulletin who.has likely never read the book, or seen the movie in its entiity!

  • Just because some liberal assholes want to kill our history, I now own a confederate flag and I am not that big a fan of the movie, but I ordered it. Screw liberals, another symbolism over substance bullshit rant. Yea, the flag caused this inbred piece of shit to go crazy. It is part of our history, are we gonna pretend the civil war never happened? That slavery never happened? Good, bad or ugly, you can NOT change history, I don't care how many stupid liberals think you can...
