Hansen: Morality of fossil fuel emissions on par with slavery. Sounds serious, Jimbo. So how do we “free” ourselves from this new “slavery”? “Hansen said his proposal for a global carbon tax…” Shoulda guessed that one. Not to worry, the tax income will be “paid directly back to the public as a dividend, shared equally, rather than put into government coffers.” The slaves will buy their way out of slavery and the slaveowners will share the proceeds with them? Yeah, right.

Prediction: Anything Hansen predicts will be wrong and laughable long after his time frame has expired. This man is the William Miller of our age.
I'm afraid I'm tending to agree with our voluble visitor. Although I certainly do believe in God, I am sometimes discouraged by a certain lackadaisical attitude toward life in general that some people adopt using faith as a cover.
I recall a friend of mine (this going way back now, just out of college) who had a job interview all lined up for a really nice position: he overslept and missed it because he forgot to set his alarm clock. His reaction: "Ah guess The Lord just didn't want me to have that job." No, you forgot to set your clock, you tool.
That God is in charge does not absolve us of responsibility for our behavior here. I'm sure all the hunters and fishermen out there understand exactly what is meant by good stewardship and the way we may take dominion over Creation. What, if we wipe out the tigers or leopards or whitetails, is that just a sign that the Lord didn't care enough about them, or that we didn't care enough about His Creation?
I agree we should be good stewards of our lives and creation. I'm just trying to expose the danger of a gaia worshiping / humanist theocracy. The very thing our Founding Fathers and atheist have worked hard to prevent. Although I believe there are darker ulterior motives behind this administration and its we know what is good for you = more government control attitude with everything.
I'm right in there with you, Wayward.
The motivation behind this nonsense Hansen is shoveling is dark, indeed. I am mostly an atheist myself, but I'll never understand why so many atheists support ultimate power of the state, unlimited abortions on demand, banning the death penalty for even the most horrendous crimes, and PARTICULARLY the new Commie plot, which goes by many names, which I call Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming. Also, just about every atheist's comments on the Internet are anti-Israel. That's just about crazy, in my view.
I do apologize for my intemperate remarks above. Mostly, I'm saying I want a President who can act when it's required, without filtering that action through the lens of his personal religious preferences. I'd hate to think what would've eventually happened, had Truman, for instance, refused to used nuclear weapons in Japan, and explained that God would not condone such a loss of life. I happen to think an American soldier's life is worth at least a hundred enemy lives. We've got a President who doesn't know how to hate the enemy. Hell, he can't even recognize who the enemy IS.
PD, I dont think Wayward meant it that way. I believe that he believes (as we all do I think) that government institutions have been imposing and tyrannical when it comes to green energy. However, people will come up with the solution, in G-d's time, when the solution is needed I believe that is what he is trying to say.
In the meantime let's do what we can to protect the environment and to make wise use of its resources wihout depleting them, however, let's not go crazy and hysterical about it either, by over taxation and penalties imposed on people in order to make something happen that is not happening. I think we should try everything and continue to use the resources we have now (responsibly) until individuals and private sectors (which ARE now working on it and have for decades) come with the best solution for everyone.
OK, since I'm having an epiphany here, or just a brain fart, I want to add that progs like Hansen are the puppets of the evil one. He, Satan, is using the fear of godless men to bring about a global tyranny that will bring Gods judgement upon the world.
It's getting late,
Good night,
and God Bless
If you factor in that there is a God and that He knew there was going to be a need for oil and gas for fuel during this time, which He must have, because He put plenty of it here. You must also assume He would know the effect it would have. Now if there is any truth to the theory that using all this fossil fuel is causing the earth to heat up, with as much that has been used, then maybe it has staved off an ice age. I remember the fear of one of those back in the 70's or so.
An all knowing God, as the Bible describes Him, would have factored this in His creation. But then if this is the case it means the use of fossil fuel would need to gradually decrease as man develops alternative energy. Just assuming here but it makes sense to me to just calm down and let nature (God) take it's course. I have faith that when it's time God will enable that alternative energy to be invented, just as He used a couple of brothers to enable man to fly.
I totally agree with you Wayward. I have been saying similar things as per the whole global warming and "climate change" hysteria. If these people are trying to protect "gaia" shouldn't "gaia" be able to protect herself? If she is all that, she shouldn't need priests to scare people into protecting her, so this "gaia" is a weak ass deity.
A real Deity who is All Powerful and All Knowing, knows what is what. When/If alternate forms of technology and energy are needed to make sure we don't fry or freeze (if He wills for the world to continue to exist), His Spirit will make sure to create and to empower humans that will make it happen. Government, trying to supplant the power of G-d will fail, because either it is not necessary right now or the methods to gaining that energy are faulty. I am not saying that INDIVIDUALS and the PRIVATE SECTORS can't look out for a clean Planet and look for alternate forms of energy that are CHEAP and ACCESSIBLE to ALL people, however government's ways are not working, government is oppressing people with taxation to make it happen and that is never a good thing.
People just need to calm the heck down. If we fry, we fry... if we freeze, we freeze... if we don't, we don't it is what it is. Whatever happens, happens. People just need to be ready. People can and should what we can for a cleaner Planet, but we shouldn't push people either or tax people in order to make it happen. That is taking away our Free Will, something that an All Knowing G-d gave us and wants us to use.
Thank you KimmyQueen. I Knew there would be some flak. I appreciate the support.
Hansen is deranged, and is acting, not on evidence, but on a wacked-out hippy theory that is more like a religious belief than scientific fact.
You are much like Hansen.
We can't base public policy on a belief that God is watching over us, or that, should large numbers of Americans die in a disaster, it is merely God's will. Nor should we avoid working on problems, since "it's not that long until Jesus comes back." Those kinds of thoughts are crazy, and, if acted upon by the government, unconstitutional to boot. In the USA, unconstitutional means illegal.
Neither science nor common sense support Hansen's (or your) BS.
Thumbs down, Human. To compare Wayward to Hansen is a little much.
God's omniscience IS in control, and yet we have free will. Free will to use the "natural" resources that He has provided in ways that we see fit. In fact God instructed Adam to "have dominion" over the earth and to "subdue it." Genisis 1:28.
Of course, you either believe or you don't. If you believe then you have to consider the attributes of God's character and what it really means. An Almighty, All Powerful, God can DO what ever He wants and that includes limiting or giving full access to resources that He has included in His creation.
Since you took exception to my comparing Wawyard to Hansen, I'll go one better, and compare YOU, RIM, to President Obama. His ideology approaches religious fervor, so his "remedies" to nonexistent problems are a big deal. He is acting illegally. If you agree with Wayward, you would also have our government act illegally. There's a reason these actions are illegal. They are stupid and ill-advised. This has nothing to do with whether God exists, whether He is all-powerful, or any other facet of God.
We have a legal obligation to make public policy in the best interests of the citizens. President Obama and his minions have disregarded that legal obligation again and again. James Hansen would have him disregard it even further.
Belief has nothing to do with it. The most ardent believer of any religion, if he or she is in a position of power in the United States government (a constitutional republic), has a legal obligation to set aside all personal religious beliefs when making policy.
When it comes to this sort of policy, where people are alleging the existence of an emergency, the Congress, the Judiciary and the President are obligated to proceed as if there IS NO GOD, even if all of them are quite certain that THERE IS A GOD.
It's their legal obligation. To act otherwise is illegal. They can't ignore a problem (and I'm very aware that CAGW is not a problem) on the basis that "God will fix it." They can't ignore a problem on the basis that "Jesus is coming soon." THey can't jump in and start working on a problem, real or fake, on the basis that it's what God wants, or what Gaia wants, or what Allah wants. It's illegal.
I'm not saying research should stop altogether. I'm saying the government should not be forcing things one way or the other. I know you would have to have a faith in a creator that knew what He was doing to go along completely with my theory. When I see people like Hansen and our government willing to enforce their beliefs, to me that leads to tyranny.
Our government has wasted billions of tax dollars on "not ready for prime" alternative energy and is willing to force people to pay exorbitant energy costs because of a belief in a theory. That is not responsible government. That is waste and tyranny.

Exactly.
Chive on sir.
No, Obama redefined NASA's mission-
To reach out to Muslim nations...
They who gave us the number 0 and uhm beheadings of infidels... and such glorious things...
This guy is a real NASA scientist? Good lord. I didn't know they hired developmentally disabled people. I bet the only good thing besides his overblown salary is he gets a parking spot near the door so he is not outside in the global warming for too long.
I'm pretty sure his brain damage is self-inflicted.
Maybe he will volunteer to ride on the next Mars probe.
I think you're being unfair to the developmentally disabled.
It's just another income redistribution plan dressed up in Green glad rags. If Mr. Hansen is serious about not burdening future generations, he should address the runaway debt this country is incurring that will put our children into a fiscal debtor's prison---$15 TRILLION and climbing. Probably not, it's not as politically sexy as saving the Earth.
I wonder if Jim Hansen, like Senator Dick Durbin, thinks that SUVs are killing polar bears. Fill 'er up and watch those bears drop like flies. Tax me Jim, I'm guilty of ecocide.
Schmuck.
This guy's brain is fried and not from global warming.
