Heavy metal is back: the best cities for manufacturing. Rumors of the death of US manufacturing have been greatly exaggerated. Driving the upswing is a US energy revolution and better cost competitiveness compared with Asia. Concerns about the lack of intellectual property rights in China are also contributing. There are jobs but they are skilled jobs – there’s no shortage of English or art majors.
