• This is what I was afraid of. I hope the judge or the Art 31 drops the charges.

• I don't know who their superior officers are but hopefully they can take what's called a Captains Mast and be judged by their immediate boss. Commanding officers have a lot of leeway, they are judge and jury, and when I was in the service most were reluctant to ruin the moral of a good sailor or Marine. A loss of pay for a month, maybe some extra duty, that is all these men deserve for trying to protect those around them. The best thing is their commanding officer is God to them and his punishment cannot be overturned by anyone, not even the Obummer.

• Why yes, they should be punished. They should punish both of them by promoting them and giving them more pay.

  In all seriousness, they should get something -- a minor slap on the wrist, perhaps. The strength of our military was always that we rewarded them for taking the initiative. I hardly think that an overall breakdown in discipline will occur because they used their unofficial sidearms to defend others. I understand that rules is rules, but the magnitude of the error doesn't rate much of a punishment at all. If the prosecutors can't use discretion, they are no prosecutor at all.

Their clusterf*** policies led to casualties in Afghanistan tripling during Obozo's first term. There had been something around 600 KIA in Afghanistan during Bush's two terms, that climbed to over 2,000 after just a few years of this assclown.

    • Damn, that long? Not that I don't I appreciate the effort but that's still 541 days of daily self promotion by the narcissistic jackass in chief and I may not have any brain cells left by then.

• What is ironic to me is that he probably had a concealed weapon just in case he needed protection, had the bastard not done anything NOBODY would have known that he was concealing a weapon, that he thought necessary to have in case he needed it.

  This is why they should allow people that WANT to have their concealed weapons with them and even if they must be prepare to show that they have that special permit, even if with that special permit they have to demonstrate the ability to shoot an extra or two times more than usual and even if that special permit comes with some kind of signed something or another, and even if it means doing an extra psych evaluation a year... for those that take the time and are okay with jumping through the hoops, I say that they should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon and the statute should go from gun free zone, to concealed weapon allowed zone.

  Those that went through the hoops have their guns and nobody else needs to know who they are, and the bad guys will have to think twice before hitting military personnel unless they are suicidal.

• While not a popular decision, whether the results of his actions were positive or negative, his possession of a firearm on base was in violation of the UCMJ. Without holding his feet to the fire, the military risks other service-members feeling that the benefit of possessing a firearm out-weighs the consequenses, resulting in a general breakdown of authority. It's unfortunate, because he probably did some good with the weapon.

  However, if the weapon mysteriously appeared at his feet as soon as he needed it, then he should be commended. Of course, I've probably been watching too much Doctor Who while my family is away.

• He should be given a medal, Not punished. The Military under Obama is really taken a disastrous turn. Treated like dirt, benefit cuts, longer waits for doctor visits and medical procedures. And what really pisses me off are the idiots who want 15 bucks an hour fro flipping burgers. Maybe it's time to make military service compulsory again. These 15 dollar and hour morons should try and live on military pay...maybe they wouldn't bitch so much.

  • There is another misnomer concerning military pay and benefits.
    You are told you get 30 days paid vacation, which is not true.
    You get paid 2x a month, not every other week, which means you get 24 paychecks a year as opposed to the 26 you would get if you were getting paid every 2 weeks. Those 30 days of vacation include weekends, which is because you are on call 24/7. Also, if you get called in for an alert or exercise, you don't get extra pay or overtime for those hours, because you are owned by the military.
    Consider this, if you are an E-1, your base pay is $1,546.83/month, or $18561.96 which if you figure that you are on duty 24/7/365 comes to $50.85 a day or $2.12/hour. Waitresses get more than that BEFORE tips!

    BTW, the highest pay for enlisted persons is E-9 over 38 years of service. That rate is $7,584.74/month which comes to $91016.88/yr or $249.36/day or $10.39/hr, which is still less than the burger flippers are getting.

    • In comparison, the highest pay rate for an officer is O-10 with 38 years of service is $19,960.59/month or $239527.08/yr, or $656.24/day, or $27.34/hr. When you consider the fact that there are only 4 people in the military that achieve that pay rate at any given time, and the amount of effort that it takes to get there, it hardly seems like enough pay.
