Host an occupier in your home and help sustain the movement. OWS is running out of cash and is struggling to keep going until spring when “we fully expect the money will start flowing in again.” If, as it seems, they’ve outlived their usefulness to Obama and the Democrats, we’d suggest not betting the tent on that.

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • Actually, this seems to me to be an attempt to get people used to the idea of having governmental or political personal having room & board with private citizens. BTW, Forcing you to do so would violate your 3rd Admendment rights, & we have seen that the constitution means nothing to the regime.

    • What are you talking about, noone has yet to even allow occupiers to camp out in a public park, let alone private residences. You can stop being paranoid about the government taking your house for now; though I can't guarantee the same with loan companies and the rest of corporate america.

      • Hey "john", say the regime says that they would like you to house a gov't official, would you say no? Seriously, you think it's really a stretch to see that happen? The Occupy scum are already squatting in forclosed homes illegally. They are part of a group that do not repsect property rights, & our gov't has been more brazen about disregarding property rights, so again, is it really a big stretch to take this to it's logical conclusion?

        BTW, your example with banks & loan companies is moronic. Nobody forces you at gunpoint to sign the paperwork for a home loan. It's your choice to do buisiness with them. However, when gov't is involved, & you don't play by their rules, you could end up being told what to do at gunpoint. If you can't see the difference between freely entering into a legal contract & gov't coecion, then debating this is pointless.

        • We're partly in this mess because the banks were coerced in the 90s (under Clinton's watch) to give home loans to everyone, regardless of credit history or ability to pay, because "everyone deserves to be a homeowner." Now Obama is saying that everyone deserves to go to college. I believe that everyone who WANTS to go to college and who has the grades for it deserves not to be charged exorbitant tuition rates, but that doesn't go far enough; they want free college tuition for everyone. But colleges don't run on charity, and college degrees will become worthless if everyone goes.

          • I may have told this story before, but I went book shopping once with a liberal friend who was a Political Science major. He got disgusted by the price of books and said, in the middle of the bookstore, flapping his arms dramatically, that "Books should just be free."

            "They are, at the library," I replied. No, he insisted, books should just be free everywhere. "Really?" I asked. I asked him if he thought that authors ought not be paid for their ideas and work. How about the printers? How about the warehouse workers, or the people who transported the books to the stores, or the bookstore employees themselves? Because I didn't think any of those people were going to work for free.

            He changed the subject...

        If you look at the top right of that clock, you'll notice that corporate tax is less then 1/5 income tax. Meaning that the 99% working citizens are paying 5 times more then the top 1% that control corporate america.

          • Im fairly certain that the Corporate tax is less than 1/5 of income taxes because all the companies are closing down... With less companies lets tax them more so they shut down too.           • Have you seen the South Park episode about Walmart? Walmart comes to South Park, they shut it down, and at the end they've learned their lesson about buying small and buying local, and the little mom & pop drugstore gets bigger, and bigger, and finally becomes a corporation.

          • I'm all for mom and pop, but when I go into their stores, all I see is merchandise made by corporations, packaged in boxes and bags made by corporations, hauled to the store by ships, trains, and planes made corporations, in a building built by a corporation, all done with permission bought from government entities.

          • The big misconception about that number is that they forgot that the corporations are not the whole 1%. Once you add in the rest of the people that make up the 1%,you will find the numbers change dramatically.

          • Nah, the amount of people tied to substantial wealth that is not connected to corporate money is insignificant. So much so that all the Federal Reserve has to do is print a few more billion to make them even more insignificant, and corporate america even more in the 1%

            This is exactly why I don't listen when Occupiers start talking about money.

            I agree the Federal reserve shouldn't be printing money. I'm not entirely certain what that pertains too in regards to my posts, but whatever. It's okay to believe that the world needs a new direction. But to say you are a member of the 99% while these same people are doing it........ Learn who you are associating yourself with. Remember this: No matter how true and righteous your cause 'may" ( And I put severe emphasis on may) be, the loudest speak for the group. And if the loudest are obviously the craziest maybe it's time to separate yourself from them so that everyone isn't laughing at the very idea you are trying to convey. Just a thought. (Because laughing is exactly what people all over the world are doing at, and make no mistake, they are laughing AT you)

          • maybe not need a corporation, but it sure helps things if theres some big companies that hire MULTIPLE people. I love the small business model of America, but that requires young Americans to be responsible and START a business. And I can tell you, just from looking at videos on the internet and seeing the turnouts to these occupy events, young people aren't ready for that responsibility. A shame really.
