THe sign says nothing about politics or skin. It merely states that it's hard to see racism when you're white. If you don't realize that the term "white" is commonly used in reference to people of Caucasian ancestry (and therefore isn't necessarily strictly about complexion color), then it's time you did.

A minor distinction, maybe, but an important one. I can say, "It's hard to do pushups when you're 40." That's certainly true, but it's also true that some 40+ year olds DON'T find it hard to do pushups. Bottom line: recognizing that doing pushups after 40 means you might have to put forth a bit more effort than you did when you were 20.

To have some two-bit group then turn around and say, on the basis of SKIN COLOR, that a group of people are unable to see racism is just another form of the same tired old racism. We should aspire to a higher standard -- for example, by judging people by the content of their character.
If we, as people trying to be decent, are to combat racism going one way, why wouldn't we be equally upset when it goes the other way? The problem is that this is just "eye for an eye" logic, and a lot of decent people are getting hit by this "friendly fire".

It said "It's HARD (not "impossible") to see racim when you're white." As I've also pointed out many, many times, race isn't just about skin color. Skin color is merely the most visible indicator of racial differences.
It isn't racist to point out that different people can perceive the same situation very differently, especially when those people come from different cultural backgrounds. And it isn't racist to suggest that, if you aren't going through a particular painful experience, it's easy to discount the pain people might be feeling, who ARE going through that experience.
For someone who claims to be motivated to "confront racism," you're certainly expending a lot of energy trying to argue that that racism doesn't exist (barring racism allegedly directed at you, of course).

The fault, therefore, is yours, not the sign's---because you insist on twisting it into something it doesn't say.
Let me make it abundantly clear. It is NOT hard to racism when you are white. That is why we don't like the billboard, that is what we have been saying for 2 pages of comments. The billboard is not accurate in its evaluation of white people to have empathy for anyone. To single out whites as the ONLY ones who somehow cannot see racism is racist in and of itself. As soon as we get over the differences in the amount of melanin in our skins the sooner we can get past all this crap!

That's admirable, but racism isn't just about skin color. If it were, then white people would find themselves being treated differently by society every time they got a good suntan.
