• I watched the guy in front of me at the grocery store last night using EBT to buy a 12 pack of soda and chocolate chip cookies.

  • At least he was in a grocery store. In my neighborhood the go to the local Abbadabi's stop and rob, whre the prices are three times what they would be in a regular store. And they buy sodas, chips and candy for their kids. I have long said that as a nutrition assistance program, only real foo should be covered. Makes more sense to me to let someone buy a rotisserie chicken than to let them blow all their funds on junk food.

• one of my many jobs is having the luxury(yeah,right pal...) of working at a grocery/liquor mart,and i see the hypocrisy of the food stamps first hand! some people will fork over some amount of cash ranging from $25-$50 for liquor, and then get "free" food,grocery items with the stamps. it is so damn pathetic it makes me sick. i have gotten into it with many of these customers about it. it's funny! i'm somewhat immune from getting fired...(family store) so i can f$%* with these degenerates, and most of them are. DO NOT believe people when they tell you that most of the people on food stamps really need the help. that's BS! most of the people on food stamps are well capable of supporting themselves! they're just too god damn lazy to do it!what they do and they do a great job of is gaming the system,so you and i can pay for their free food,cell phone,cheese, and now lattes...so yeah, if you're getting government cheese don't come into my store! ha ha

  • While I agree that enormous fraud is taking place in the government assistance programs, I am not willing to say "most" recipients don't deserve the assistance. I know many who desperately need this help. In my state, food stamps will not pay for prepared food, only for groceries. But I do know of situations where a purchase is rung up as rice and beans, with alocohol and cigarettes in the bag.

• I'm waiting for when some left coast state allows people to legally buy booze and cigarettes with them, in order to cut down on people trading their food stamps for booze and cigarettes.

• Recently saw a sign that Burger King excepts the Independence card. I also saw a liquior store that excepted the independence card. Only someone morally dead would not have problem with that.

  To think , those that actually work hard for a living , paying lots and lots of taxes , so that those that won't , can live life like that , getting upset about crap like this.

  To know that some turd will stand up and defend them , is the only thing worse . I guess they need each other .

    Sorry but I'm a word freak at time. Do you mean that Burger King and the liquor store "accept" (as in allow customers to use) the card--or did you mean that the two business "except" (as in exclude the use of) the care?

    • You are right and I am wrong. I'm a very poor speller. Its amazing how far I went in math , but am a certified tech-no-tard and poor speller to boot. People email often to use spell check , except I don't know where its at. My wife , who is a teacher comes to my resue often , but apparently not often enough.

      Anyone on these boards are free to notice and bring to my , and others attention , my spell crappings. It is what it is.

      My snarkiness and sometime whit will still be the same , even if its spelled like a 9 year old. Thanks.

      • LOL Neo, at least you aren't a technical writer! You would drive the proofreaders crazy! I am similar to you, a techno nerd, but also like AZ Dude, in that I am a word nut! Spelling and coherent writings are pet peeves of mine, but I don't say anything here unless it is someone that is a real ass. I will sometimes misspell a word, but it just proves that I'm only human. Some of us are more human than others, but life would be so boring if we were all the same!

      • Even if we can spell, most of us will still mistype. Don't seat it unless it really changes what you are trying to say!

      • Besides, spell-check doesn't check context. If you have the wrong word, but have spelled it correctly, spell-check goes along it's merry way.

    • Based on the context, I suspect he meant Accept. I don't think anyone would find it morally deadening to refuse food stamps at a liquor store.

• Starbucks is based in Seattle so management likely has a lot of pals in Oregon. Take a deep breath and smell the Crony Cappachino.
