  • This is what happens without competitive bidding and HONEST bid evaluation. The current criteria for a goobermint contract is who is going to kick back the most to the politicians and procurement people. Anyone reminded of Embalmercare?

  • While I can understand the reasoning for upgrading the communication, and radar systems, I'm at a loss for the reason for putting in a launch system that may, or my not work. The steam catapults always worked from day one, and have a heaver load rating.

  • Only a thirty page testing assessment? Seems they haven't really started any serious testing yet.

    On second thought, maybe they should contract with the company that designed the Obamadon'tcare website. They're doing a bang-up job. Really.

    • I hear they are looking for a new contractor. Finally. We'll see if it makes any difference, since the entire system is screwed up, and patches aren't going to help at this point!

  • Well, I'm ashamed to admit it- but this is kinda cool.
    My arrogant, anal, self righteous, better than thou, insulting brother-in law helped design one of the effected systems. ( won't say which out of respect for the navy )
    So, HAHAHAHA.

    PS: That would be the real, non-liberal infested pre-Obama Navy I have respect for.

    Most normal Americans would probably understand and possible feel some " I feel sorry for him , pity " , if the ship name was the USSR Barack " Zero " Obama .

    Then we would all get the joke , just as we do in real life .

    • Were a ship to be named after Obama, no - for Obama it would have to be a whole class of ships. The Obama class solar/battery powered carriers - CEV. Brilliantly designed by a committe of Harvard profs, asorted greens, obamacrats, and Volt engineers. Built exclusively by democrat campaign doners. Ships with the efficiency of the Obamacare website and run by Solyndra execs. During construction, the few problems with the ships that did leak out of Obama's "transparency screen" would constantly minimalized by his apparatchiks and MSM (sorry for redundency). Even as the first example sank leaving drydock, the democrats=MSM would be praising the utter success of the new class of green, energy efficient battery ships, ignoring the "sea caused disaster" as a result of using a Bush-era dry dock.

      • Don't forget the unicorn fart backup propulsion system.
        These ships will do 0-60 in 3 months, and have a turn radius of a trip around Australia on a good day, Greenland on a normal day..

        • I can see the first mission will be to transit the NW passage, possible as the arctic will be free of ice due to AGW. After this it can go on general patrol with Greenpeace, harassing workers on oil platforms, saving drowning polar bears, etc..

  • Doesn't sound like any big deal to me. Does it float? Does the propulsion system propel it through the water? The rest is just bugs that will be worked out during shake-down cruises.

    • Barring catastrophic failure of the untested catapult system.
      I used to work at Lakehurst NAEC (The place the Hindenburg blew up) and the hanger next to where I worked had a complete setup of ALAD (Aircraft Launch and Arresting Device). These things are massive, but time tested. Trying to upgrade them with new, untested tech is a mistake. BTW, Lakehurst is the ONLY place the arresting gear cables are made for US aircraft carriers.

    • Dammit, I was just about to say Gerald R. Ford the person was a bit clumsy at times, too. Hey, I guess I just said it anyway.

      • That's a bad knock on Ford thanks to SNL. No different than people thinking Palin said she could see Russia from her house. In reality, Ford was a very good naval officer during WWII and probably the greatest athlete-president. He stumbled once maybe twice and Chevy Chase never let up.

        • SNL as well as all the news reports during the run up to the election. I remember watching him stumble on the steps in bleacher seats I think as well as either Marine One or Air Force One, I don't remember which. I don't actually think he stumbled on both!. No matter, combined with Chevy Chase's pratfalls in character and the repeated viewing of the other two, there were very few newly anointed 18 thru 20 year old voters that were not completely turned against Ford in favor of the peanutiest presidential nominee ever.

  • The thing that concerns me about all the new military hardware being built is this: ALL the high tech components are from China, and it is proven they have added "back doors" to everything. If we get into a conflict with them, do you really think they cannot/will not sabotage us with the tech they sold us?

    • Is that verifiable, that it's made in China? I would think work like this, there would be contractual obligations that some percent of the parts have to be US made, just to satisfy the unions (never mind REAL concerns about supporting our own economy.)

      Hell, my high capacity assault clip shooting gun has to have 3 parts made in the USA!

        I have not actually looked it up, just going with the law of averages.
        How much high tech is NOT made in China? Hell, if a certain portion is just assembled in the U.S.A. they are allowed to say "made in U.S.A." on the label. Or at least "assembled in the U.S.A."

  • Overpriced, less effective than what it's replacing, and unable to achieve it's announced goals. Yup. Another fine product of the same bunch that brought you 404Care.
