Iranian Revolutionary Guard heads to Iraq to take on ISIS

• The least irrealistic hope for the 200 Contractors is that if they can hold long enough, the Revolutionary Guard will obliterate the dog lickers besieging them.

  • If Iran send a large military force in Iraq, there is going to be a reaction from Saudomite Arabia and other gulf states, especially if Iran send forces powerfull enough to defeat ISIS in short order, drive them right back to the Syrian border and beyond.
    Turkey is less hostile to Iran itself but will not appreciate Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq.

    Both the saudi and turkish governements have made preparations to become nuclear powers when the time is right.
    Obviously the Iranian gov knows that and will only wage a limited intervention as long as Samarra and Baghdad holds (likely) but tensions can still rise later due to some other causes, while the risks of a general middle-east war remains low, a general thermonuclear arms race is likely.

• Get our folks out, let them kill each other....we are watching the 2014 caveman riots.....

• I sure hope neither side runs out of ammo. Unfortunately they wont run out of targets.

  • Why doesn't the NRA surround the country and have target practice, slowly advancing until there are no targets left.

  • I was worried about this too. We should get the AF to "airdrop" supplies to both sides. I believe they called it Operation Arc Light during the VN war.

• Personally I'm rooting for the Kurds up in the north. Good people (for the area). Fairly pro-US. And they've already taken a few cities

• Sunnis and Shiites killing each other off - is there a down side to that?

  • Yes, someone will survive.

• The gingham dog and the calico cat ate each other up, so I guess there's hope.
