Is Perestroika Coming In California?

Is Perestroika Coming In California? “When Jerry Brown was elected governor for a third time in 2010, there was widespread hope that he would repair the state’s crumbling and dysfunctional political edifice. But instead of becoming a Californian Mikhail Gorbachev, he has turned out to be something more resembling Konstantin Chernenko or Yuri Andropov, an aged hegemon desperately trying to save a dying system.” Interesting analogy – note that after Gorbachev and Yeltsin came Putin.

  • Gorbachev was also an "aged hegemon desparately trying to save a dying system". It's just that he was really really bad at it. and the system, doomed to fail no matter what, died despite the MSM's Gorbasms.

Jerry Brown may yet prove to be more like Gorbachev.

  • Perestroika, when your reaction to a hole in your boat is to drill another hole to let the water out, then make 2 more holes if that doesn´t work.

  • "...there was widespread hope that he would repair the state’s crumbling and dysfunctional political edifice."

There was? Funny, all I remember was people saying "Oh, crap, not THAT idiot! He's the one who CAUSED the problem!"

But then, I only live here, so what do I know.

  • note that after Gorbachev and Yeltsin came Putin

Does that mean that the next governor of Kalifornia will be Obama or Hillary?

    • IMO, the closest parallel to Yeltsin and Putin would be any Kennedy (hic!), and Harry "the Drab" Reid.

        • Hey poppa, about that work thing I did, I can (kinda) laugh about it now. I've been doing things like this for a long time in one form or another but I made a really stupid rookie mistake and figured you'd get a kick out of it. We maintain rentals and buy properties to rehab and keep to rent out or re-sell and just closed on our newest project a couple weeks ago.

We're almost gonna gut this place OK? Well on day 3 the dumpster dude showed up right on time, and left 15 minutes later with the dumpster still on the truck. The new place is in an old neighborhood and because of the skinny-assed street and a few strategically placed trees (it ain't called Maple St. for nothing), it was impossible to put the thing in the driveway. Or the front yard for that matter.

So now I have a half sized one out back off the alley about 15 yards from the house. No carrying all this s&#@ right out the door and into the dumpster, oh no, too easy.

And did I mention we contracted out for a two layer tear-off of the old roofing? Deal was "off the roof into the dumpster" we'll (meaning mostly me) do the rest. Yep, all that is now on the ground in the back yard. And since the shingle truck couldn't use the boom yesterday, I have 2 plus skids of new shingles out back by the dumpster instead of on the roof where they belong.

I could go on but you get the idea. Later, while you're still laughing at least tip one in my honor.

          • OMG!! What a cluster F#^*!!
Can't you trim/trmove a couple of trees on your property to allow the trucks to get closer?

  • I've said it before, I'll say it again. Let's dump California and adopt Puerto Rico as the new 50th state. This way we won't have to change the flag and we can laugh at all those Californians living in their third world country. And we're going to need to build a fence to keep those idiots out of America.

Every time I see a commercial here in Pennsylvania about why I should move to California featuring about 15 different celebrities, I don't feel bad for that state, because they clearly waste their money.

  • FTA: " The Soviet Union armed itself to the teeth and sent cosmonauts into space while the public waited on line for toothpaste and sausages. Similarly, Californians suffer from a combination of high taxes and intrusive regulation coupled with a miserable education system — the state’s students now rank 47th in science achievement — and a rapidly deteriorating infrastructure."

How bout that bullet train, folks?!?
