Where did they get current DNA? Maybe another coverup, as one of the Royal family was also a serious suspect.
They used mitochondrial DNA and located female descendants for both the victim who was found with the scarf lying next to her, and the nutty hairdresser. Mitochondrial DNA goes from mother to daughter and doesn't change so they can say blood and semen on the scarf matched exactly. There is no percentage of certainly to throw doubt on this - they got exact matches.
(Needless to say, the female descendant of the nutty hairdresser doesn't want her identity revealed, so if you want a shade of doubt there you go. Hopefully the owner of the scarf will share that identity with Scotland Yard at least, but who knows?)

I was trying to express his proclivity politely. In the linked article they say "a misogynist prone to ‘self-abuse’" which, in those days, meant he masturbated a lot. I don't know how they knew that unless he was doing it where other people could see him do it, which must have been hindered his acceptance into high society.
