Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

Additionally, the official elevation of Denver is measured outside the west entrance to the building, where the fifteenth step is engraved with the words "One Mile Above Sea Level." From this step, at 5,280 feet (1,609 m), the sun can be seen setting behind the Rocky Mountains. A second mile high marker was set in the 18th step in 1969 when Colorado State University students resurveyed the elevation. In 2003, a more accurate measurement was made with modern means, and the 13th step was identified as being one mile (1.6 km) high, where a 3rd marker was installed.

        • Uhhhhhmmmm. LAX IS not in Colorado. And Denver is nowhere near the coast. I am a little lost here. Though you are correct about the elevation in Denver, hence it's nickname The Mile High city. Of course now that is a very ironic label!

  • I am at the point that when I hear/see/read a story & see someone being blamed for racism or when "global warming/climate change" is blamed for whatever, I just laugh & know that it political BS about 99% of the time. These people need to called out, mocked, ridiculed, & ostracized from the political arena. They need to be forced out, & that's only because we no longer hang, draw, & quarter people.

  • Even if were not arson, I suspect they call this time of year "wildfire season" for a reason.

  • I'm pretty sure these are man-made fires... ARSON. Climate change or Global Warming or whatever they are deciding to call it today has NOTHING to do with these fires. Hell. one guy even got arrested for adding fuel to one of them.

    • Wow, I guess that makes the Warmists actually correct. This man-made fire was indeed caused by MAN-MADE global warming/change/weather.

      How exciting for them. Finally they have something that might (almost) pass as empirical evidence. /snork

  • I think this is a great opportunity to finally deal with global warming and energy dependence. The US needs a cap and trade system with auctioning of licenses for emissions rights. I would use the revenues from these auctions to launch a new, environmentally friendly energy policy. That would be yet another federal program that could help us to overcome the current stagnation.
