JFK assassination: the finger points to the KGB. A new book suggests that while Oswald may have acted alone, he was being manipulated by hard-line Stalinist KGB agents acting on their own without authority from Premier Khrushchev. While others had motives to want JFK dead, Oswald had the means and opportunity and perhaps these agents gave him the motive: the visa he wanted to return to the USSR.

Certainly more plausible than the other "theories" which hardly merit the name. One worthwhile comment: "before JFK was shot Oswald tried to kill Gen. Edwin Walker, a right-wing activist and failed political candidate. Was the KGB really as afraid of Walker as they were of JFK?"
Possibly discredits the KGB theory unless -- 1) Oswald did do that completely on his own, possibly just to get the Russians' attention or 2) it was either a dry run/test run under KGB direction to see how well Oswald followed directions and if could hold his nerve.
Speaking of Cuban missiles: I read somewhere fairly recently that we were actually about 15 seconds away from a real shootin' war with mushrooms. Apparently there were two subs standing by, both armed with nuclear torpedoes, and both with independent authority to use them. As I hear it, the captain of the one actually had one in the tube and was counting it down when the captain of the other sub, who outranked him, made contact and ordered him to stand it down.

i remember that one. being a reader, i was quite disturbed by this episode. but at least i can see. oh yay.
The comment section for that article is priceless, the conspiracy mongers (especially Paulites) are in full moonbat mode. The KGB, CIA, FBI, the Mafia, the "Military/Industrial Complex", the Federal Reserve, Castro, anti-Castro refugees, the Bush family,and the Jews are all candidates for pulling the trigger. The Texas Book Repository must have been flooded with gunmen.
Can't wait for the 50th anniversary of the assassination next year and the tsunami of books, movies, documentaries, TV specials, dramas and late night talk show conspiracy theories.
They left out LBJ.
Omitting LBJ was an error on my part. He, of course, was a prime suspect.
I did it. I was just a little kid at the time, but let's not let facts get in the way.
