I've never much cared for Joan Rivers. I'm pleasantly surprised by the first half of her statement but am disgusted by the last part in which she expresses sympathy for the draconian Chinese system of population control.

Yep. If the Lord of the Universe "only" truly demands 10% and ONLY if you can AND you are doing it out of a good heart, I don't see why mere government thinks it has the power to demand and by force MORE money that it already gets and then assume that the person must do it because it is the right thing to do as if the person would accept it as such and not see that this is forceful regardless of how the person feels about it.
Kimmy, therein lies the rub. As taxes rise, tithing to churches has dropped, because the people can't afford to do it. When there was no or a very low income tax, the people were happy to tithe to their churches, because they knew that the churches were helping the poor in their community. Once government took over that job, the people felt no need to give twice to support one cause. The problem with that idea is that government spends way too much on administration, and nowhere near enough on the cause. The churches got a much higher percentage of the money to where it was needed. Now, they are doing with much less money.
Exactly. It is true. Government has essentially taken over and deceived people to believe that it is doing the work of Churches and Temples. Overall, Churches and Temples, are not being upfront with this issue either and many fail to tell thepeople exactly what you stated above. Hence warning people of the dangers of big government, perhaps out of fear of loosing their tax exempt status yet ANOTHER method of control by the government. It is insidious.

Another problem with “government entitlements” is it’s no longer looked at as a temporary handout for the hard on luck or sustenance for the truly needy. It has become an entitlement for whomever feels entitled and for however long they feel entitled. Because it is looked at as an entitlement it no longer carries the shame that encouraged the majority to better themselves.

That is because Holder gave them the go ahead. Once CERTAIN churches ("Black Churches") were given the permission to speak in support of Obama it is okay, but those Churches that 1. Aren't "Black Churches' and/or 2. Dont seem to be in support of Obama will be reviled and threaten with loosing their tax exempt status if they speak against Obama. The meme remains the same: If it is pro liberal in a liberal government it is okay if it is anti liberal in a liberal government it is not okay. If it was a anti liberal in a conservative government the media would be outraged. You can't be afraid when the one is charged tells you it is your oblilgation to support Obama (because he is (half) black).

Dr. Tony Evans did a good series of sermons on this issue (responsible voting) without mentioning the situation at hand (names) per se. It is a tight rope and only really good pastors/reverends/priests can walk it without getting into trouble AND at the same time propagating G-d's truth as it comes to government and our participation in it.
